Welcome to the karate website for Tendring Wado Kai (T.W.K). We are non-profit making karate club based in the Tendring area whose purpose is to teach and promote traditional wado based karate to the highest standards in a fun and safe environment. All the money raised from lesson fees is used to pay for hall hire, subsidise karate equipment for students and cover costs to karate competitions.

Our instructors are Dan grades (black belts) , CRB checked, fully insured, First Aid qualified and have attended courses run by Sports Coach UK on Child Protection.

The purpose of Karate training is to develop and maintain health and strength, both physical and  mental, to teach good manners to students, self-discipline and mutual respect between Karate-ka and others. Training also helps fitness, self confidence and serves to encourage decency and respect between all members of society.

We are affiliated to the British Wado-Ryu Karate Shikukai (BWKS) so we are one of the few karate clubs teaching traditional Japanese karate and train under a Japanese instructor.

The British Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Shikukai Karate Association practices WKF official Wado-Ryu. This is a traditional form of Japanese karate and it includes combat and competitions. The oldest clubs of our Association were founded in April 1975 by Yoshi Shinohara.

May 2012 : It is with deep sorrow that TWK announce the sad passing away of our Sensei and mentor Yoshi Shinohara, who has passed away peacefully after a long illness. His spirit will remain with all his students he has taught over his extraordinary career teaching Wado Ryu Karate.

His teachings will carry on the tradition he has taught through his disciples, he will be sorely missed and leaves the world of karate a poorer place.
