MAPLE SHADE – History was made when the Seneca High School girls bowling team finished second in the Group 2 field at the NJSIAA South Sectional Tournament Feb. 18 at Laurel Lanes here.

The Golden Eagles earned their first-ever trip to the state championship tournament by virtue of their runner-up finish to Barnegat.

Seneca rolled a three-day total of 2180 – its fourth highest series of the season – with games of 749, 694 and 737. The Golden Eagles finished 106 pins higher than their 2074 regular-season team average.

Senior Annmarie Zack led the way with a 510 series (181, 168, 161) , which was 18 pins higher than her season average series. A 164-average bowler, Zack placed 15th overall and earned one of the top 25 qualifying positions in the state individual championships.

Freshman Jenna Pearson rolled games of 161, 178 and 162 for a 501 series, good for 18th overall. The freshman was 33 pins higher than her season average of 156.

Other Seneca scorers were: senior Cameron Burr (456; 177, 152, 127 – 145 season average), freshman Tatum Walsh (378; 122, 98, 158 – 120 season average), junior Sarina Staiger (108, 98 games – 114 season average) and sophomore Kailey Worrell (129 third game – 112 season average).

“Aside from Jenna and Annmarie bowling super consistent, Tatum had a great game of 158, 38 pins over her average and Kailey stepped in for the third game, bowling a 129, 17 pins over her average,” said Pitner. The girls bowled pretty consistent all day, so I don’t think lane conditions were an issue.”

As for expectations for how his team will do in the state team and individual tournaments, Pitner commented:

“The team is still riding the high of being the first girls’ team in Seneca history to qualify for states. We just hope to get to states, have fun and enjoy the moment.”

The state girls team and individual tournaments were held this week at Bowlero Lanes in North Brunswick.
