Hunslet Hawks sign Callum Casey

Hunslet Hawks have further strengthened their squad for 2015, after confirming the signature of Halifax forward Callum Casey on a one-year deal.

The 24-year-old has been a regular in the Fax side since joining the club in 2012, making 60 appearances across three seasons with the club, scoring 14 tries. He has played for Ireland in the European Championships this Autumn, guiding them to within a whisker of winning the entire tournament, as they lost out to Scotland on points difference.

And Hawks’ Director of Rugby Darren Williams believes that the signature shows that the Hawks can compete with other clubs for top talent – as well as revealing Casey had other options on the table, too.

“It’s a credit to the club that we can now attract proven Championship performers to join us as Callum had several other options to consider,” Williams said.

“Callum has played alot of games at Championship level for someone of his age and he cemented his place in a top 4 Championship side over the last 3 years. Karl Harrison speaks really highly of his attributes both as a player but also as a person and we got very good reports from the Rhinos as he progressed through their junior systems.

“I’m sure Callum will prove to be a very shrewd signing and his utility value increases our selection options. He’s just appeared in every game for Ireland in the recent European Championship and scored a scintillating try against Wales.“
