In one of the greatest upsets in tennis history, 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz ended Novak Djokovic's domination at Wimbledon to seal his second Grand Slam title and first-ever victory at SW19 on Sunday (July 16) in an epic five-setter.
After being blown away in the first set, the Spaniard made an incredible comeback to seal the game by a margin of 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4 in one of the all-time great finals at the iconic Centre Court in a marathon clash that lasted for four hours and 48 minutes.
Djokovic's frustration at the shape of the game was evident as he missed out on what would have been a record-equaling eighth Wimbledon title. The Serbian's fury came to full public display in the fifth set as he smashed the net and broke his racquet, for which he was given a court violation by the chair umpire, Fergus Murphy. The incident did not go well with the crowd and resulted in him being booed by the spectators present inside a jam-packed centre court.

Despite getting criticised from various corners of the sporting fraternity for his actions, Djokovic refused to apologise for the incident. Earlier, he was also given a time violation penalty during the tie-break of the second set.
"There's not much to talk about that. Second one was frustration. I had break points in the second game. Yeah, just tough, tough couple of points. He played amazing to break my serve, which was enough to win the fifth. The first one was the time violation, so yeah. Not a great moment again, but you just kind of have to accept it," said Djokovic in the post-match press conference.
"It was a frustration in the moment. "I answered to your colleague two minutes ago about that. There's not much to say about that," Djokovic replied after being questioned once again after the incident
