Where?
A cathedral city in the East of England, surrounded by woodland and bucolic villages but good for commuting and an hour’s drive from the sea.

Why now?
On July 21 it will be the 55th anniversary of the government designating Peterborough as a New Town. It was a city long before 1967, but a study carried out that decade showed that it could be expanded to soak up London “overspill” and be a regional force of gravity to better balance out the country. The New Towns and garden cities movement has gained momentum once again, with five new locations from Hertfordshire to Gloucestershire sharing £3.7 million of funding for the delivery of up to 64,000 new homes.
