Fire crews race to tackle Scots bowling club blaze as locals left devastated

THIS is the moment a local bowling club was engulfed in flames in a Scots village.

Firefighters raced to the blaze on the Claremont Drive in Milngavie, near Glasgow, after the alarm was raised just after 7am this morning.

Dramatic footage captured from the scene shows a huge fireball erupting from the Claremont Bowling Club's roof as firefighters battled the flames.

Dozens of firefighters attended the scene after six trucks were deployed during the 999 dash.

Images show crews using a cherry picker in a bid to tackle the huge flames from above.

And shocking images revealed the devastating aftermath after the fire ripped through the building.

The incident sent shockwaves through the horrified closed-knit community as locals took to social media to express their sadness.

A woman said: "Aw that's so sad. I had many good times in there".

Another user said: "It's Claremont Bowling Club that's on fire. It's completely gutted."

A third said: "There are too many sirens, four fire engines that I've seen so far. It doesn't look good."

There were no reports of any injuries.

 A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.14am on Friday, 25 November to reports of a building fire in Claremont Gardens, Milngavie.

“Operations Control mobilised a total of six fire appliances and crews remain in attendance.

"There are no reported casualties."

Cops continue to probe the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services remain in the area and enquiries to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out.”
