Voices of the SEC: Kentucky did it!

Things happened in the SEC in Week 2 — for some teams. Two conference games graced Week 2 with their presence. Here are some of the stories out of the second weekend of SEC football.

A Cat Bath

Two SEC East matchups went the way of the visitors, with Georgia whipping South Carolina and Kentucky finally, finally, finally (add 'em up to 31) beating Florida.

Georgia grinding an SEC East opponent down, even on the road, is not all that notable. But Kentucky breaking a 31-year losing streak to Florida (the Wildcats had not beaten the Gators since 1986 and had not won in Gainesville since 1979) could be a tenure-defining win for Mark Stoops.

Bulldog brutes

With a Noon Eastern kickoff, Mississippi State did its business in Manhattan, Kan. early and swiftly, earning Joe Moorhead his first road victory with a romp over Kansas State.

Nick Fitzgerald returned from his one-game suspension and did a 150-yard double - passing and rushing. The Bulldogs rushed for 384 yards as a team.

Aggie-nizing

Texas A&M and quarterback Kellen Mond almost completed a 15-point comeback victory over No. 2 Clemson at Kyle Field on Saturday night. But the Aggies were a successful two-point conversion away from upsetting what many assume as the unquestioned best from the ACC.

September was supposed to be tough for Jimbo Fisher and A&M, and they did lose Saturday. But Mond and the game Aggies can continue to prove itself with a matchup against Alabama in two weeks and the rest of the SEC West gauntlet in October and November.

Mild West

Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama all eased into the first game week of conference play with wins over inferior competition. Not all had an easy path to a blowout — Ole Miss trailed Southern Illinois at halftime — but all eventually made out with comfortable margins.

Alabama travels to the Rebels and Auburn hosts LSU in the beginning of SEC West play next week. As far as offenses go, Alabama will not face a more explosive side of the ball this season. And when isn't Auburn-LSU silly?

Players to know

This space will be for those players that busted out of the pack every week that you may have heard of, fan of said player's school, but names that fans across the conference may not have recognized.
