THE future looks bright on the court for a young Horrabridge player, who has already netted much success on the badminton court.

Lucy Cooper, aged 11, is a pupil at Horrabridge School and is ranked first in her age group across the South West and 12th in her age group across England.

In the last few years Lucy has excelled in her badminton locally by winning the singles and doubles competition at the Plymouth and district Badminton Tournament at U11s level two years running and winning the doubles at the Torbay Open tournament.  This year has seen Lucy entering U13 tournaments a year early where she has already making her mark by coming runner up in the Kerrier tournament singles and winner in the doubles; third in the North Devon Tournament singles and winner in the doubles.

Three years ago, Lucy was selected to play for Devon at U11s level.  This year Lucy is number one girl in the squad of players which went on to win the U11s South West junior county league for Devon.  In March Lucy will travel to the U11s national tournament in Hatfield where she will compete against the top U11s English badminton players.

Lucy is coached out of Horrabridge Badminton Club where the club is justly proud of her achievements.  Her coach at her club congratulated Lucy on her achievements over the last few years. 

Alan Berry, head coach at BAT's Badminton Club and lead coach at Horrabridge Badminton Club said: 'Her dedication to the coaching and training at Horrabridge Badminton Club has seen her technical and tactical awareness on the badminton court improve in leaps and bounds.  In addition, Lucy's achievements are a spur to other players who see her as an example to emulate both at club and junior county level.
