Werrington too strong

The 1st XI entertained a strong Werrington CC from Cornwall in a pre season friendly.
Werrngton won the toss and decided to bat first.

Werrington started strongly against some wayward Deane bowling amassing a century stand until John Rogers who had just arrived from Australia the day before took the first wicket Gribble LBW for 36. Rogers was again involved running out Smeeth for 13. The introduction of late call up Joel Larkman brought about the next dismissal of opener Lawson for a well made 60.
Werrington continued to be strong throughout with scores of 63 from Hodgson and 35 from Smith getting them to a very good score of 306 for 5. 48 extras conceded did not help the Deanes cause.
John Rogers 7-1-25-1, Joel Larkman 6-0-34-1, Russell Jones 7-1-36-0, Jack Fraser 10-0-47-1, Robert Pryke 10-0-70-1, Luke Whittear 10-0-80-0

The Deane lost opener Jack Fraser for 0 early and then rebuilt through Sam Loud 19 and John Rogers 22 before losing both and falling to 60 for 3. Yet another rebuild was on with Debutant John Davies making 32 and Sam Shaikh top scoring with 49. But with the required run rate building the Deane lost wickets steradily and ended up 196 all out. Hodson again the star for Werrington with 3 wickets 8.3-1-34-3

The first XI will be hoping for an improved performance when they travel to play Sidmouth next saturday.
