Live and virtual events for the week of July 13-19

The number of positive coronavirus cases in the Tampa Bay area continues to rise, but we still have plenty of live events happening. If you do decide to go, check to be sure they are still taking place and follow all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention safety guidelines. Family

Parking Lot Social: XL Event Labs will charge $29 to $59 per car for a variety of themed events geared toward an audience of automobiles spread across the parking lot of Raymond James Stadium. It kicks off Wednesday with a drive-in Comedy Night with host Steve Miller and comics J.J. Curry, Cam Bertrand and Brian Aldridge ($29 at 8 p.m. Wednesday). Thursday brings a Neon ’90s Movie Night with a throwback DJ on the main stage playing classic tunes and a screening of Back to the Future II on two 40-foot screens. Themed costumes are encouraged ($39-$49 at 9 p.m. Thursday). Friday and Saturday night at 8 bring the Parking Lot Social party ($49-$59), with three hours of entertainment, including Car-A-Okea, which uses two giant screens for a mass sing-along; a silent disco that lets guests use wireless headphones to select their DJ of choice; Boom Boom Bingo; and a trivia contest. Street food and drinks from local vendors will be delivered to cars. Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. brings Social Kids, a more family-friendly version of Car-A-Okea, a silent disco, bingo and a family trivia contest ($39-$49). There will be Midnight Movies and a live DJ on Friday (The Fast and the Furious) and Saturday (The Purge). Tickets are $39-$49. Aqua Nights: The Florida Aquarium has extended summer hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 8. There will be exhibits, animal encounters and costumed character appearances. The Splash Pad water play area closes at 8:30 p.m. The aquarium requires timed ticket reservations and the Splash Pad has a reservation kiosk. Face masks are required. $27.95, $23.95 children. Sunrise Sale: This is the 47th year for this St. Petersburg tradition where shoppers are encouraged to wear their pajamas. Those who do are often treated to extra discounts or small gifts. This year there is going to be a contest for best mask as businesses enforce social distancing guidelines. The event sees downtown filled at dawn with yellow flags, bright balloons and eager shoppers checking out more than 38 merchants starting at sunrise at 6:43 a.m. Thursday and running all day.
