There is little information to be found on Lynch himself and he destroyed many of his original paintings before he died in 1989. He is best known for his sultry and fantastical paintings of women created in the 1960s, many of which feature in the 1971 Stanley Kubrick film, A Clockwork Orange. His most iconic work is “Tina” (1961), which featured in both Kubrick’s film and on the front cover of Edwyn Collin’s LP, A Girl Like You (1995). Lynch was also an accomplished landscape artist and his bold use of colour and line, along with the slightly stylised nature of his portraits, reflect the vibrancy and energy of the Sixties. Lynch’s prints were originally sold in outlets like Boots and Woolworth’s: “Tina” and the rest of Lynch’s female portraits were purchased in their thousands, becoming a household staple for the rest of the Sixties and Seventies. They are now popular with collectors and considered key pieces for any kitsch, vintage domestic interior.
