CLOCK Face Miners battled their way into the NCL cup final with a 20-18 semi-final win away at Leigh East.

Clock made their way through the 1st round and quarter finals of the NCL cup with wins away from home against Wigan St Judes and Oulton Raiders.

They were on their travels again when they headed over to Leigh to face Leigh East in the semi-final.

Clock looked determined straight from the kick-off and totally dominated the first half. Clock came close to scoring a number of times in the early exchanges but, broke through on 17 minutes when Shaun Costello ghosted through the Leigh East defence to score.

Minutes later and Mikey Fields ran a powerful line to score under the posts with Costello slotting over the two.

Clock’s try of the game came on the 30 minute mark when Luke Forber broke through the Leigh East defence on half way, finding Michael Carney in support who raced in for a try under the sticks.

The Costello conversion gave Clock a 16-0 half time lead.

Leigh East made a few changes at half time that paid off when their full back broke through to score under the sticks.

Three minutes later and the Leigh East full back was in again, reducing the score to 4 points. However, Clock stretched their lead to 8 points when Costello scored out wide but, missed the conversion.

With ten minutes remaining Leigh East scored and converted their try reducing the score to 2 points.

But thankfully Clock held on for the win and a place in the NCL cup final where they will face East Leeds on the 16th October at the LD Nutrition stadium (Featherstone Rovers) at 4.15pm.
