Roller derby is set to take London by storm

Raring to go: the London Rollergirls are yet to be beaten
5 April 2012

Roller derby is a relatively unknown sport in the UK. But thanks to a new film directed by Drew Barrymore and starring Ellen Page that won't be the case for much longer.

Whip It tells the tale of a girl saved by roller derby, with its girl-power-meets-punk-rock spirit and its liberating celebration of wild individuality.

While it is going to be the next big thing as far as trendy sports go, The London Rollergirls caught on to the craze a long time ago.

They are the biggest roller derby league in Europe and have been beating any opposition. A dominant display at Roll Britannia, the first European roller derby tournament held in July 2009, left the European derby community in no doubt that this team is taking things seriously.

They are yet to be defeated. However, the ladies are about to face their toughest competition yet as they take on The Texas Hustlers. The Texas Rollergirls kick-started the roller derby invasion that's taken the world of women's sport by storm and are renowned as one of the best leagues in the world.

They are making a special trip to London on Saturday Match 20 to take on Europe's finest.

If you want to cheer on our team and see whether they can sustain their winning record book tickets for the Excel London event now.

Tickets: £15, children 6 – 12 years £8, under 5s free. Available now from www.londonrollergirls.com
