Lucente and Afghan take out Auckland Junior Open titles

The Remuera Rackets Club was the venue for the 2017 Auckland Junior Open, held from the 16-18 June.  The tournament attracted over 100 entries with players from around the upper North Island hoping to take home the silverware.  They were joined in the draws by eight international players from the USA, in the country for a training camp with coach Paul Hornsby.

After three days of tough competition, two first-time Auckland Junior Open champions were crowned.  The Boys title was taken out by top seed Matthew Lucente of Belmont Park who defeated clubmate and second seed Gabe Yam 3/1 in the final, while the Girls title was won by North Shore's Amara Afghan with a 3/0 victory over Belmont Park's Natalie Sayes.
