The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Spalding Indoor Bowls Club were in dominant form at the Lincolnshire under-18 singles play-offs over the weekend.
Amazingly, Spalding boasted ten of the 18 teenage talents at Horncastle – and ended up with all four finalists.
Jack Wells and Max Butters were playing in their first competition, alongside the more experienced Spalding juniors of Jonathan Field, Nathan Puttrell, Harry Mycock, Matthew Ford, Bailey Day, T-ja Spiller, James Cherry and under 18 England international, Danielle Wild.
All of the juniors conducted themselves well and were a credit to the club.
In the junior under-18 singles final, Spiller will face Cherry, while in the senior under-18 singles final it will be Mycock against Wild.
Both finals will be played at Boston, with all the other county finals, on April 28.
- Spalding IBC’s mixed team lost 134-77 (16-2) at Louth in their latest league clash on Saturday.
Their sole winning rink was skipped by Pete Ridley, with Edna Perkins, Maggie Wheatley and Roger Perkins, who won 18-16.
- The men from Spalding IBC were beaten 120-77 (14-4) at Stamford B on Sunday.
Spalding did have two winning rinks, both winning by two shots, one skipped by Andy Dunham and the other by Kevin Ekins.
- A team of friendly bowlers from Spalding IBC won 126-104 against a Cambridgeshire VPs team on Sunday.
The top winning rink was skipped by Pearl O’Brien, with John Fitchett, Gill Haydon and Ivy Tyler, who won 23-11. Captain for the day was Jenny Horner, assisted by Edna Perkins.
- Spalding IBC’s over-60s double rink side crashed out of the competition in the second round after losing 42-22 at
a strong Stamford side.
