Blue Devils collect co-title at Mt. Morris softball tournament
Sault High finished as co-champions of the Mt. Morris softball tournament over the weekend.
The Blue Devils went 2-0 in the event, which was played during steady rain and ultimately halted before the scheduled championship game due to poor field conditions.
Sault High opened with a 15-0 win over Mt. Morris in three innings.
Marisa Gonyeau was 2-for-2 with two triples, and Payton Salomon was 2-for-2 with a double. Alexa Jones was 2-for-3, and Kayla Johnston had a double. Megan Jean and Courtney Shier singles.
Alyssa Holt collected the mound win, allowing no hits while striking out three and walking one.
The Blue Devils beat New Lothrop 18-8 in six innings.
Jenna Sanderson was 3-for-3, and Jackie Harwood, Jean and Jones had two hits each. Gonyeau doubled, and Johnston, Kylee Fitzpatrick and Salomon singled.
Sanderson also chalked up the mound win, allowing five hits while walking three and striking out one.
“We were firing on all cylinders while playing in a steady rain,” Sault High coach Linda Bouvet said. “Megan Jean was slated to pitch the championship game, which was cancelled due to poor field conditions.”
Sault High (12-7-2) plays host to Cheboygan Tuesday at Locey Field.
