The Bylet Bowling Club, in Bridgnorth, has been granted planning permission on the Bylet island in the River Severn.

It will include a new side extension and viewing gallery as well as improvements to protect the clubhouse from future risk of flooding.

Work is now expected to begin in April and could be completed by October, which would mean the club will have to play the current season using temporary accommodation.

Club bosses today said they were delighted to have been given the planning permission by Bridgnorth District Council.

Bylet treasurer Pete Driver said: "It's obviously great news for the club. We've been waiting a long time to get the new club house and we are eager to get started. I think work will probably begin in April now and it could take until October."

The club has raised more than £13,000 for the work.
