“The heights, by great men reached and kept, were not
attained by sudden flight, for, they while their companions
slept, were toiling upwards through the night”.

Dear readers,

It gives us immense pleasure in bringing to you yet another edition of Charisma. As we

impart education in tune with technological advancement and globalisation our students
march ahead with the sound foundation of our rich Indian culture. We pride ourselves in
nurturing and developing our students into sensitive and responsible citizens of the future.

Our Founder Chairman Late Colonel P S Satsangi, VSM would say "Learning is lifelong and
it never goes waste, A child has to be taught at his pleasure not at his peril." How true! We
firmly believe that every child is a unique and beautiful God's creation. Thus, we at CSKM
Public School impart both knowledge and learning experiences to students and empower
them holistically for a bright future. We work on implementing a well balanced curriculum
to ensure that the children who walk into the portal of our school will not just love the
school years but truly become rough and tough to face life's challenges.

'Charisma' is a milestone that marks our growth, unfolds our imagination and gives life to
our thoughts and aspirations. On one hand it unleashes a wide spectrum of creative skills
while on the other hand it serves as an yearbook for the students, teachers, parents and
all who are associated with it.

We have for you a wide range of poetry, riddles, paintings, stories, amazing facts and some
other informative and inspirational articles. We, the editorial team, enjoyed the journey
of compiling this magazine as much as the students enjoyed in contributing their articles.

The editorial team owes its gratitude to the Principal, Dr (Mrs) Shakuntla S Jaiman for her
constant support, encouragement and esteemed guidance. We also thank the Editorial
Team of teachers and students for their wholehearted contribution towards the success of
this Journal.

Happy reading !!!

Chairman's Blessings

W
ish you all a very happy New Year, Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Pongal,
Bihu and Republic Day. Ours is a truly amazing country with
unity in diversity. We at CSKM are also somewhat similar, with
students from different regions, different faiths, different languages all
living and studying together. All teachers, other staff and students live and
work in harmony.

I pray to God to bless the wonderful CSKM family and give us strength to
continue doing good work, help each other achieve greater heights. I urge
everyone to be diligent, honest and positive in our everyday life.

In this era of mobiles, dish TV and internet we all need moments of

tranquility. Due to the fast paced digital age lots of mental health issues are
coming up even in school children.

Spiritual pursuit helps us to calm our mind and keep our mental balance.

We, Indians have a very rich heritage and culture that has many varied
spiritual traditions. I would urge the young minds to read about them and
see which method appeals to you.

Adopting spirituality in daily life can help us in all aspects of our life
including studies. I request all students to please give it a try and make it
their new year resolution. I wish you a productive and peaceful year ahead.
May God bless!

Dr Rohit Jaiman

Principal's Musings

L
ife seems to have come a full circle. Having been there and having done that,
one realises that the Basics are important in all facets of human development.
The wisdom of the ages has been questioned time and again. The swiftly
changing times lead us to contend with a lot of newness and we adapt to it.

Certain cultures value individualism over collectivism, extroversion over

introversion, rough edges over roundedness, noise over quiet and stillness,
complexity over simplicity and empathy over understanding. The eternal truths
and values hold us in good stead regardless of all new ideas and theories evolving
over time as we adapt to the changes, the context has to be understood.

Having been a perceptive, analytical person, as I view my life and career in

flashback, I find that the people who outshine others are those who practise the
most humanistic values and live simply even while following lofty ideals.

At the end of the day it does not matter what we possess or what status we gained
but how much we give of ourselves. At CSKM I wish every individual student and
teacher to live upto these principles…

…and when I retrace the foot prints of our alumni as they traverse their paths, I am
humbled by mighty pride that I experience in CSKM’s contribution to humanity.

Honour and glory to CSKM, the educational philosophy of our beloved Founder
and all stakeholders again and again and again!!!

It’s 15 January 2020 today, Happy Makar Sankranti and onwards to auspicious
beginnings afresh.

Dr (Mrs) Shakuntla S Jaiman

Headmistress asserts...
Dear all

My thoughts here are my perceptions of all I have

listened to, absorbed, observed, studied, understood and
imbibed. My message to everyone including myself is to
genuinely strive to be 'true to oneself'. Sounds cliché,
right. But we know it and many a times we forget or
simply do not bother to be ourselves as it may be more
convenient to get by otherwise. We modify our thoughts,
words, actions and behaviours according to a given
situation or people. Social etiquette and protocol is fine
but the question is - 'Am I myself - perfect and divine the
way I am and supposed to be?'. Of course, each one of
us at one's own pace has to work on cleansing the layers
and discovering our real self which is peaceful, powerful,
loving and giving - actually 'anandswaroop'.

Let us strive to take out some time daily to talk to our

I quote Louise Hay, the renowned inspirational teacher
and author, "The road to freedom is through the doorway
to forgiveness". This resonates with our ancient Indian
wisdom. To experience liberation, we need to forgive
ourselves as well as others. We need to let go of all the
burdens we willingly carry - anger, fear, wrongs, worries
and anxieties etc. By reiterating the negative aspects in
life, we create a vicious circle. Likewise by consciously
creating a virtuous circle of affirmations about ourselves
and significant others around us, we alter the undesirable
reality. Imagine if everyone works towards the same goal
of everyone's advancement, how beautiful and tenacious

we wish to contribute and what kind of world we shall
leave for posterity.

"Parents' Speak"
CSKM Public School, as I heard from many is a much desirable place for a
student to be. As I approached the campus a feeling of simplicity surfaced
my mind much needed in the present times. This school keeps the child
busy in creative ways. That way, the teachers channelise the enormous
energies the students have in these growing years. The best part any
parent would like is that students are always with teachers or wardens who keep a
close watch on the activities and well being of children. The class teacher takes a great
responsibility of students and their overall performance. Personal attention is given to
each and every child. Apart from so many good things the one thing that is amazing is
that teachers are in the system for many years and appear to be greatly attached to the
school and the children. I deeply appreciate the confidence, which the class teachers
the subject teacher and wardens have shown, regarding my student’s grooming. All
in all, the school’s contribution in character building in the crucial years of teenage is
commendable. I feel proud and priviledged to be the part of CSKM family.

Environment
A clean environment is very important for a peaceful and healthy life. But we, human beings are
polluting our environment.

These problems which are caused due to humans are called ‘Human Disasters’. ‘Pollution’ is one of
them and is increasing day by day. It is a very serious issue which should be known to everyone as
our life depends on environment only. It helps us remain fit if we keep it free of pollution.

There has to be a balance between humans and environment. All the human actions directly or
indirectly leave their impact on the whole atmosphere.

We should save the environment for a healthy and happy life.

My Father I Think of You…
My Father goes here and there,
He has brownish hair. When light fades away
He has things to share, And darkness is all over,
And takes a lot of care. When the stars begin to glitter
My father is an intelligent man, And the moon comes out of its cover,
He likes to say that he can! I think of you, your thoughts are there.
All the time my father works, When the sun is tired
On a laptop And birds are heading towards their nests
And likes to reach the top. When the sky is colourful as never seen before
My father is savvy, he wears a smart tie, I think of you, in my mind you are the first.
He likes to sip a cup of tea, When life seems to end, and I feel lonely
And while walking sometimes hurts his knees. I think of you. Someday I’ll be gone

Trees: Our Best Friends
Trees are beautiful gifts of nature. Trees are great friends of mankind.
They give us flowers, fruits, timber, bamboo, fuel etc. We can rest
under the cool shade of trees. We get wood from the trees to make
doors, windows, furniture etc. Trees are also a great source of raw materials
for paper, rubber, gums, herbs and medicines. Forests attract rainfall and prevent
soil erosion. They protect us from severe changes in weather. Trees are a part and
parcel of life on earth. All life directly or indirectly owes its existence to them. Trees
absorb carbon-dioxide and release oxygen which we breathe in. They are natural
habitat of many animals and birds. Trees increase the soil fertility. Consequently
we get good crops. During rainy season, we take shelter under trees. Trees and
plants guard us against pollution and maintain the ecological balance. Trees
definitely play a very important role in our lines.

Wish to be A Topper???

Many students live under the illusion that they would just start studying a few weeks
before the exams and score the desired marks. When the time comes, and you sit to
study, you go blank, you hate it, you can not concentrate, you have useless thoughts,
hate your friends who are studying. So what do you do, well, talk to the ones who
always score well. You worry because they’re going ahead of you and invite stress
because of syllabus is too mcuh to cover. Those, who say they study for one night
and score well, are making a fool of you. There are no tricks, schemes, mind games,
but the mere truth of life that everything comes from perseverance. A fact you’re
going to learn years later.

Let’s be honest here nobody’s born with a natural inclination to study. What we
want to do is play games, have fun with friends, look incredibly good and show off to
everybody. You have to understand, to get better in anything, the one only thing you
need to do is practice. Practice in itself includes hard work, patience and persistence.

So be careful about what you’re doing which you may think is unique and cool, isn’t
it? The problem with most of you is not that you don’t plan or want to study, but
whenever you decide, at the last moment, you do something else. In simple terms,
you have too many distractions around you, lack of concentration and goals setting.

Why do you think people who actually cracked the IIT and IIM shut themselves in
a room, only attract those with similar pursuit, and aren’t really active on social
media? Because one word, prioritizing of priorities are what lead a man to glory and
lack of it to the destruction.

Your parents and teachers are right on this one thing; “You need to plan”. For
planning to happen, it requires detailed analysis- isolation at least partial isolation,
research, self-questioning, self-recognition of goals, utilisation of time, scheduling,
routine, building, scanning the sources of time wastage, the capacity to work, and
the work to be done.

We all want the best for ourselves. But the best often has two different definitions.
They are best for you and for your life. Let’s apply this to you; you actually know
the best things for your life. You already have colleges planned in your mind, the
percentage in high school, XII standard, or college, your GPA in college, companies
you want to get into. At any stage, you know what the best thing for your life is,
but you always sabotage it, destroy it for things that you think are best for you at a
particular moment.

Your expectations are the most accurate and credible assessment of your abilities
done by yourself. So, if you are underperforming, instead of accepting the results as
your standards, learn what the mistakes were, where you lacked, and what you need
to focus on. Boost your confidence. Take one step at a time.

The problem is that most of you have accepted that you are an average student.
Think, how you can excel if you’ve already accepted you are mediocre. Reject it. No
one can decide who you are; only you can put yourself on the top, that’s where you
belong.

And last but not the least always stay motivated. Because it’s your life. People can tell
you how and why but at the end of the day, the decision and efforts are yours. Nobody
is going to do anything on your behalf. Only you can. So get up and get going!

Once Upon A Time...

About eight years ago, when I was eight years old I
was going for a picnic in a forest with three friends.
When we reached the forest at night we set up a tent
out there. We went in search of wood for making fire
and to cook some tasty food to eat. Then we made
and had dinner and went to sleep. When the sun rose,
we made a plan to go to the jungle. We enjoyed a lot
over there. While returning to the camp, I saw some
delicious fruits and thought that I should take a few
for my friends also and to get the fruits I went without
informing my friends. After taking those fruits, when I was coming, I saw
that my friends were not there. I loudly called out my friends’ names but
there was no reply from them and I had no phone to call them. I kept on
shouting for help for sometime and I discovered that I was completely lost. I
was walking like a ghost in the forest.

After roaming here and there in search of my friends I came across a big lake
and found that my friends were sitting silently by the lakeside and were very
upset. They were also searching for me. After getting tired they sat down and
started throwing stones in the lake. I cried in excitement, ran towards them
and hugged them. I was so relieved and happy that tears started flowing. Then
we all went to our camp site. My friends declared, “We will never leave you
alone as you get lost like a small baby”. Everyone had a great laugh.

Friendship
Friends are extremely important for
everyone to live life to the fullest.
A true friendship is something that
can not be expressed in words.
Friendship is being able to laugh
and cry together. Friendship is being
foolish and mad at each other.
True friends are always ready to
protect each other from being hurt
emotionally and physically. It takes
time and patience to build a strong friendship and mutual
trust and respect is its foundation. It is very important to
have somebody with whom you can share your thoughts
freely.

A good friendship is very difficult to come across. That is

why we should appreciate this divine relationship that
is based on understanding and feelings. There are a lot
of benefits of friendship. We just need friends to live

Friends are important for our personality development.

Save Environment
Air, water and forest are our natural resources. We must preserve them. Deforestation affects
rainfall. If there is no rain, we won’t get water. It will become a rare commodity. We should
use water judiciously. Water harvesting is a technique. Repair all the leaking taps, pipelines to
avoid wastage of water. Do not waste water. It is necessary to construct dams and store water
in reservoirs. Ground water also should be protected. At last I would say that we should use our
resources wisely and save it for our future generation.

Dear Bapu,
Today I am very much excited and nervous to write you a
letter because writing a letter to your role model is very
much interesting .Really Bapu you were a great inspiration
to me and to all nation lovers who want to do something
for their country. Bapu you are great because where people
were protesting violently for their freedom at that time you
came with a non-violence movement called Satyagrah and
gave us freedom from the Britishers who ruled cruelly over
us. You glowed the light of patriotism in us with your sweat.
A country where people are very much into racism. You
made united them and only because of you today we are enjoying our freedom

promised to gift you Clean India on your 150th birthday in 2019.

Title - Thirteen Reasons Why
Author : Jay Asher
Cover Artist : Christian Fuenfhusen
Country : United States of America
Language : English
Genre : Young adult
Publisher : RazorBill
Publication date : October 18, 2007
Media Type : Print (hardback)
Pages : 288

It is the story of a young high

school student as she descends
into despair brought on by
betrayal and bullying, culminating
with her suicide. She details the
thirteen reasons why she was
driven to end her life in an audio
diary which is mailed to a friend
two weeks after her death.

A suicide note was left, but not in the way anyone would
have expected it. Thirteen stories were recorded onto
tapes by Hannah Baker. These stories, as the tapes told,
were each correlating to a person who had something to
do with her death. Each one was to listen to the stories
and then pass them on to the next person on the tapes.
The last person is to keep them. They are never to be
listened to by anyone other than the thirteen. If however,
the tapes don’t make it around Hannah promises that
someone will release all of the stories to the public. beginning to listen to them. He is completely unaware of
The story picks up with one of the people on the tapes how he could have anything to do with this girls death,
but he listens intently to each of the stories. Each person
has had their own impact on this girl and each story
adds to the humiliation and frustration. From people
who made fun of her to her loves who betrayed her
and even the guidance counselor. Each of these people
had a chance to impact her in a positive or negative
way, but each of these thirteen betrayed her, her trust
and eventually were a part of her decision. Find out the
stories behind each one of these in Thirteen Reasons
Why.

It is interesting to get to hear Clay’s reactions as he

listens to the tapes. Getting to hear how someone who
was on one of those tapes reacted was a chance to see
these in a completely different light. It also gives insight
into how each person can make an impact on the people
they interact with, or choose not to interact with.

I chose this book because it was one that caught my

attention with the introduction. The introduction jumps
in with the story of Clay dropping the packages off at the
post office.

I’d give this book to anyone who wanted to see the

impact of people on other people’s lives.

Once a Guru always

Q4. What in your view, is GenNext’s biggest strength?
Which are the key areas of improvement?
Ans. The Gen Next is aspirational, energetic and ready
to give what it takes to achieve their desires.
They appear more practical and liberal too. The
necessity is to put foundations beneath their
aspirations with meticulous hard work, social ethics
and spiritual values.

Q5. Given the diverse needs of todays youngsters,

what emphasis do you put on teacher training?
Ans. Teacher training or for that matter upgradation
of oneself in any field is a constant. We say, ‘a
teacher is one who is a lifelong learner’. Being
open to all experiences and our social, physical
and natural environment enables us to enhance
ourselves. Besides, continuous professional growth
is important.

Q6. With their vast experience and wisdom how

can the elderly contribute to students all-round
growth and development?
Ans. Elders are the mainstay of any society. Their input
and support is essential to the grooming of a

Guruvani well rounded individual. As Indians living by the

tradition of familial love, care and mutual respect

Rewarding and Fulfilling Years of
My Life
It was way back in 1987 that I appeared for an interview
for a teaching post in CSKM Public School With tinge of
nervousness, I was face to face with the persona non-
pareil founder Chairman Col. PS Satsangi.

I was fortunate to have been inducted into the CSKM

family as the first day-boarding teacher (1987 -1997) and
subsequently as residential teacher. The long innings
lasted well over three decades (1987 to 2019) I was
hesitant initially as I was the only Tibetan and belonged
to a different cultural mileau. But the welcoming and
inclusive nature of the school authorities, my colleagues
and students made me feel at home and CSKM
became my second home. As much as I would have
loved to continue, I had to quit due to pressing family
commitments, compulsions of personal nature.

The life enriching experiences gained during my long

tenure of service at CSKM have been gainfully rewarding
yet most challenging, in keeping with the school motto the course of their grounding in the school. I can vouch
“Busy Bee Pleasaure”. with certainty that children who pass out of the portals
of CSKM can never fail in life as we focus on making our
students good, successful human beings.

I stress with immense pride and gratification how

meaningful, purposeful and fulfilling 32 years at CSKM
has been. I gained an insight into how engaging it is
to share the interests, hopes and aspirations of the
children who come under one’s care. I would like to
express deeply felt appreciation to the Chairman, the
principal and my colleagues and the service staff for
reposing faith and confidence in me. The unstinted
support and cooperation enabled me making my
endeavours bear fruition.

As a CSKMite for life and in keeping with my self imposed

commitment, I shall maintain life-long association and
loyalty with the school that has added so much meaning,
purpose, innate sense of pride, satisfaction and of
belongingness.

Yeshi Choedon, Teacher

From a modest inception, it is with the tireless efforts of
dynamic chairman that the school soon embarked on a
phenomenal growth. With a sprawling campus, endowed
with adequate facilities, infrastructure and devoted,
dedicated members of staff, CSKM today is one of the
top ranking day–boarding schools. There is so much to
reminisce and look back on with fond nostalgia.

A day in the life of a CSKM teacher is an exciting and

eventful one with hustle and bustle of activities all
through the day; morning studies, classroom teaching,
curricular activities and evening games and sports,
evening and night prep. The children are provided
boundless opportunities for alround development. the
qualities inculcated and nurturing that is imparted in

An important fact in view of which CSKM results are to be seen is that the school follows the NIL FAILURE SYSTEM evolved by Founder Chairman Col
P S Satsangi VSM. The school allows each and every child to attempt the Board Exam.
“The school has evolved a system that caters not only to the high performers but also strives to facilitate under achievers. Therefore the result of CSKM
comprehensively stands very high in ranking as compared to others who only concentrate on result-oriented education system that tends to neglect and even
demoralizes low performers. CSKM is, perhaps, the only school that awards its high improvers along with high rankers. Thus, the school aims at academic and
alround excellence by each child through self – motivation”, quoted the Principal, Dr (Mrs) Shakuntla S Jaiman.
