GLENVILLE >> Jason Morris Judo Center hosted its 18th JMJC Open on Saturday, with more than 75 athletes from all over the Northeast coming to participate.

This edition featured rising JMJC stars including Schulerville freshman, Aiden Cocozzo, Burnt Hills sophomores, Quetin Cook and Mitch Paltiel, Schulerville’s Steve Poulin and Shenendehowa eighth-grader Kiernan Shanahan. The event included a wide-range of competition from five-year-olds up to competitors in their 40s. The JMJC Open is the brainchild of JMJC owners, Teri Takemori and four-time Olympian, Jason Morris. The event aims to develop kids through a scrimmage-type atmosphere with no pressure.

Next up for the JMJC is the hosting of the 3rd-annual Liberty Games on Sunday, July 19 at Mekeel Christian Academy in Scotia. The event was dedicated to Judo Legend, Jimmy Takemori, Teri’s father, who passed away May 15.

AMSTERDAM 11, ADIRONDACK 6 >> Shen graduate Justin Yurchak was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in Amsterdam’s 11-6 on Saturday. The Mohawks (7-3) got a pair of RBIs from Andrew Rouse and Brendan Tracy.

Kyle Walker led the Trail Blazers (4-5) with a fifth-inning home run. Walker added a double and finished with three RBIs.

Sunday night’s game against the Victor RailRiders was postponed due to impending storms.

GLENS FALLS 2, MOHAWK VALLEY 1 >> Mohawk Valley’s Marc Iseneker allowed two earned runs on three hits and suffered a hard-luck loss to the Glens Falls Dragons in a 2-1 game on Saturday in game one of a doubleheader.

Oscar Rodriguez led the Dragons (4-5) with a 2-for-2 day at the plate. Danny Oliveri scored both Dragons runs in the win.

Thomas Walraven led the DiamondDawgs (3-5) with a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases, along with Mohawk Valley’s lone run.

MOHAWK VALLEY 10, GLENS FALLS 5 >> Troy Scocca and JD Osbourne each drove in a pair of runs to lead Mohawk Valley to a 10-5 win over Glens Falls in Saturday’s game two of a doubleheader.

Osbourne homered in the second inning as part of a five-run innings for Mohawk Valley (4-5).

Ryan Hooper drove in a pair of runs for the Dragons (4-6), while Danny Oliveri was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.

ALBANY 9, SAUGERTIES 2 >> Albany scored seven runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 9-2 final over the Saugerties Stallions on Saturday night.

Jesse Cooper was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs for the Dutchmen (5-4), while Adam Gauthier drove in a pair of runs. Mike Reitcheck tossed five innings, allowing one earned run, six hits and two walks to pick up his first win of the season. Reitcheck struck out four.

Chris Reynolds and Lawson Dunkin led the Stallions (5-5) with an RBI each.

Local Running

FLAG DAY 5K/10K >> Saratoga Spa State Park hosted its annual Flag Day 5k and 10k runs on Saturday at the Warming Hut. John Bomhem, 27, topped the men’s 5k competition with a 20:40 time. Joseph Genter was second at 20:51.

Carol Ippoliti, 28, won the women’s event with a final time of 24:07, finishing third-overall.

In the 10k event, Anthony Erno was the men’s winner as well as the overall winner at 36:47. Daniel Pierson was second at 37:53.

The women’s competition was won by Maria Kniric at 57:54.
