More about City of Armagh RFC

City of Armagh Rugby Club was founded in 1875 and will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025.
From its early years, it played its games on the Mall and shared a clubhouse with the cricket club,
before moving to it's present home at the Palace Grounds in 1972, where a modern clubhouse
was opened in 1978.

The club has three pitches at the picturesque setting and opened an extension to the clubhouse
in 2022.

The club has 4 adult teams and the First XV has made the journey from junior rugby in 2011, to
making their debut this season in the top tier of Irish rugby, Division 1A of the All Ireland League.

City of Armagh RFC has youth teams at all age groups for both boys and girls and the mini section is huge, with over 275 children playing each Saturday morning. The P7 boys’ team had a very successful
tour to Barcelona in April this year.

Shea is action for Ulster.

The youth teams have won Ulster Leagues and Cups at all age groups down through the years
and last season, the U18 Girls won the Ulster Cup and the U16 girls, the Ulster Plate.

Last year, the club was delighted when Armagh's own Shea O’Brien was awarded a professional contract by Ulster. Shea started with Armagh minis before playing with our youth teams and making his First XV debut alongside four other former Under 18 players. Ireland women’s international, Vicky Irwin also started her rugby career at City of Armagh. Many of the club’s young players, both boys and girls, have gained representative honours for Ulster and Ireland from Under 17 to Under 20 age levels.
