Almost 200 youngsters took part in the East Kent Coastal Sports Partnership’s Key Step Gymnastics competition at Herne Bay High School.
The event featured 180 pupils from schools in Faversham, Whitstable and Herne Bay, competing as 39 teams of four.
Gymnasts were judged on floor, body management and vault at the competition, which acted as a qualifying event for the Kent Schools Games.
Most of the gymnasts there were children who had never been to a gym club or taken part in a competition.
Hernhill School won the Year 1/2 team competition, with Luddenham School taking the team prizes in both the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 categories.
Jessica Collins (Hernhill) won the Year 3/4 individual award and Kyle Horrigon (Hernhill) won at Year 5/6 level, while there was also an individual award for Luddenham School’s Victoria Sowre.
The teams from Luddenham and Hernhill now go forward to represent the East Kent Coastal Sports Partnership at the Kent School Games in June.
