Battle goes to the wire

Kent Regional League

-

Relegation for Boughton & Eastwell from Championship East is still in the balance following a six-wicket defeat at home to fellow-strugglers Milstead.

They now need to win well at third bottom Sandwich Town 4ths in their final game on Saturday and hope the Sittingbourne villagers lose at champions Littlebourne in similar fashion.

Both teams started the day on 162 points but B&E struggled from the start after being put into bat.

Simon Aylott top scored with 30 not out in a total of 81, the last five batsmen all failing to score.

David Gray (15) was the only other batsman making double figures.

Aylott then took two wickets as the Sittingbourne villagers reached 82-4.

Mersham Sports, set to drop out of the Premier Division, conceded their game at Blackheath Wanderers. Neil Williams (55 not out) and Alex Watson (5-25) led with bat and ball as Wye beat Kennington by 44 runs.

Williams and Daniel Noden (40) featured in a total of 163-9, before Watson did the damage with the ball. Sunil Gaire hit 31 for Kennington, boosting them from 48-6 to 119 all out.

Willesborough (80-3) won by seven wickets at Dover Cosmopolitans (76) in 1B East.

Skipper Daryl Carter hit 120 and finished with 4-30 as 1C leaders Tenterden (205) beat Nonington 3rds (144-8) by 61 runs.

George Sheen took 6-19 as Street End (103-8) squeezed home by two wickets against leaders Stowting (101). The defeat cut the gap between the teams to two points ahead of the final weekend.
