Philadelphia is one of the great golf centers in the United States and at its heart is The Philadelphia Cricket Club, the only club in the United States with a different golf course constructed in each of the last three centuries.

The original nine-hole course was built in 1895 by famed architect Willie Tucker and was soon expanded to an eighteen-hole course in 1897. The course, named the #2 Short Course in the US, is now known as St. Martins. Playing as a pleasant nine-hole layout, St. Martins hosted the U.S. Open Championship in 1907 and 1910. In 1920, the Club commissioned one of our members, the renowned A.W. Tillinghast, to create a golf course in Flourtown. Now known as Wissahickon, this Tillinghast course shows the work of a design genius at the height of his abilities. The course opened for play in 1922, and in 2013-2014, underwent a complete restoration. The Club was proud to open a second championship 18-hole course in 2002 designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. Adjacent to the Wissahickon course, Militia Hill's modernity complements its classic neighbor. The Club provides its members with access to the top golf practice facility in Philadelphia from dawn until dusk throughout the golf season. Its two-tiered range includes short game, irons-only, and instruction areas to complement dozens of grass hitting stations.

The Club offers a comprehensive competition schedule for men, women and children of all ages and abilities. The Philadelphia Cricket Club is one of the four founding members of the Golf Association of Philadelphia and fields a number of men's and women's teams in interclub competition, while juniors compete in the Colonial League. Internally, the Club hosts gross/net Club Championships, Men's League, Women's League, Better Ball tournaments, etc., as well as social competitions such as two Member/Guest tournaments and numerous Stag and Doe Days. With over 10 PGA Professionals on staff, the Club strives to provide its members with the best instruction experience possible, including private lessons, clinics and group instruction opportunities for men, women and children.

The Philadelphia Cricket Club hosted the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship and the 2016 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. We look forward to hosting the 9th Annual USGA Four-Ball Tournament in 2024.

"I could go on and on about the wedding coordinators at the Cricket Club. We were planning our July wedding when COVID-19 arrived and, like everyone else, we were uncertain about how our day would unfold. Amy and her team at the Cricket Club continuously checked in with us, updated us about the ever changing restrictions and protocols, and were professional and understanding throughout the entire process. We are so grateful for not only a beautiful venue, but a supportive team who helped us make decisions for the best day possible. I recommend the Cricket Club because of the people who work there and how they treated us throughout the process. They truly are wonderful people who want to make your day as special as possible."

 History Overview
Founded in 1854, The Philadelphia Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country devoted to the playing of games. As the name indicates, the Club was formed by a group of young men of English descent who had played the game while students at the University of Pennsylvania. With the wish to continue to play together after their graduation, they formed the Club under the leadership of William Roach Wistar. We invite you to join us in the telling of our history in the timeline below.

 Member Dining
The St. Martins Clubhouse has recently completed a major renovation and now offers the best contemporary American dining the North Atlantic has to offer in our new restaurant, The Heights. Members and their guests have raved about our creative twists on classic dishes using seasonal ingredients at their peak.

The Wissahickon Clubhouse is a tastefully converted Pennsylvania farmhouse and offers classical pre- or post-golf dining via a brick patio overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green of the Wissahickon golf course. Members also enjoy lunch and dinner in The Terrace Room, while the Tillinghast Room's fireplace provides a warm and welcoming dining venue in the colder months.

The Militia Hill Clubhouse sits upon the 1st tee of the Club's Hurdzan Fry-designed championship golf course and is a peaceful venue for post-golf drinks and snacks.

Back at St. Martins in the summer, members can relax and dine at the Pool Pub or adults-only Pool Bar, or enjoy a refined al fresco dining experience on the historic Porch overlooking the Club's grass tennis courts.

"As the Mother of the Bride, I can't say enough good things about this venue!! The food, the beauty, and the staff were all 5 stars! Family and friends are still letting us know that they had never been to such a great wedding as the one we hosted at the Cricket Club. They have praised the staff who went above and beyond for our guests. My daughter's exact words were, "I always dreamed of a fairy tale wedding and my dreams came true!" The only downfall was that it had to end! Thanks to Amy and the amazing staff... you made our event one to remember for a lifetime. AMAZING!!!"
