PETERSFIELD-BASED South Downs Taekwondo enjoyed plenty of success at the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (TAGB) Welsh Championships 2019.

The competition was held on Sunday in Cardiff and South Downs Taekwondo had competitors from its Petersfield, Midhurst and Alton clubs taking part.

Lilly Barnes won three gold medals at the event in individual sparring, individual patterns and team sparring. Gary Houckham also won a gold medal in individual sparring.

Natasha Lee won a gold medal in individual sparring and a bronze medal in team sparring, and Ben Gander won gold in team sparring.

Freya Gander won two bronze medals at the championships, with a bronze in individual sparring and a bronze in team sparring.

Darcy Gander won a bronze medal in individual sparring and Matt Livings won a bronze medal in individual sparring.

Also taking part in the championships were Russ Denyer, Cliff Denyer, Lottie Pateman and South Downs Taekwondo head instructor Colin Sayer.

Colin said: “Special mention to Lilly Barnes for her three golds and Freya Gander for working really hard to combat her fears and win bronze.”

South Downs Taekwondo’s Petersfield club holds training sessions for many different classes at The Petersfield School.

The club also has clubs in Midhurst and Alton.
