OKEHAMPTON Otters Swimming and Lifesaving Club competed in the Devon County’s Championships recently.

The championships is Devon’s highest competition. The Otters had four swimmers compete in ten events and they achieved eight top ten finishes, including two third places and one second finish. They also accomplished eight personal best swims.

The swimmers, who are all from Okehampton, performed superbly and did themselves and the club proud, having fun and getting regional times as they did so. This now means that they will now take on the best in the South West.

Head coach David Dennis said: ‘We are very lucky to have such a talented group of swimmers. There are another three or four members who could have done the Devon’s, if they wished. I have been so impressed at how well the whole club has trained and competed over the last 12 months and this shows in the swimmers’ achievements.

‘The children all work so hard and support each other. If they continue to improve the way they have over the last 12 months then the next 12 will be fantastic and very exciting. I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation.

‘Thanks must go to the coaching team of Will Cooper, George Morgan, Nick Bowles, Charlie Galley and Dave Bowles who have been looking after this squad.’
