The Timaru Bowling Club held its closing day for the summer season and opened the winter season on Saturday.
Thirty-two pairs played 2×4×2 pairs, and played eight ends for the first game and six ends for the second game.
The closing day cup was the A.W.B.C. Trophy, won by Warren Garrick and Eileen Rabbidge.

This season it was agreed to have joint winners for the club spirit trophy as our senior singles player, Eileen Rabbidge, won the centre title, and Lyn Wilkie and Judy Boyle won the centre triples title.
Eileen now goes to Dunedin to play in the national singles, while the three for the triples travel to Auckland for the national triples.

Pair achieve milestones in South Canterbury title win
A gold star and a first South Canterbury open title were significant milestones featured in the South Canterbury mixed pairs final, played on the Timaru green at the weekend.
Jarod Trevathan managed to win his second South Canterbury title this year with a victory which earned him his gold star for winning five South Canterbury titles, and his bowling partner Carolyn Darby won her first title.
A strong field of 36 teams played on carpet greens around South Canterbury — at Timaru, Geraldine and Kia Toa clubs — to qualify for post section play at the Timaru club on Sunday.
Players had to be from the same club and the tournament was played as 2×4×2 pairs, which meant each player skipped every second end.
The final brought two Temuka teams together for the title.
Trevathan and Darby played Roger Jackson and Mel Reid, and what a magnificent game of bowls it was.
Trevathan and Darby will represent South Canterbury in the New Zealand finals in Hawke’s Bay in August.
This was a magic game of bowls.
It was a shame there was a loser with all four players playing outstanding bowls.
It was a great show by the winners who had to play eight games and won all eight.

Ruffell first woman to win trophy
Indoor bowls
Debs Ruffell became the first woman to take home the Colin Hunter Memorial Trophy when she won the SC Henselite Singles elimination final held on Saturday.
By winning this event, Ruffell will now represent South Canterbury at the zone finals being held in Oamaru over the first weekend in July.
The finals of this event, over the past four years, have always had a closely fought final and this year was no exception.
After eight of the 15 ends, Ruffell had a one-shot lead over Alan Reid.
Reid took the lead for the first time in the match after scoring three shots on the 11th end to take a two shot lead.
After 12 ends the scores were locked up again at nine apiece, and again after the penultimate 14th end the scores were locked up again at 10 apiece.
A very tight last end saw Ruffell play her last bowl to put the pressure on Reid.
Reid tried to turn one of his front bowls over but was a shade wide to give Ruffell the win 11 shots to 10.
Ruffell was the first woman to win this event since the 1990s when Jan Greig won the Henselite before there was a trophy presented for the event.
In the semifinals, Ruffell held fast against the Carolyn Cooper charge.
Cooper came back from 12 shots to six down after 12 ends to scream back into contention.
Cooper trailed by two shots going into the last end.
After playing her last bowl, Cooper held the lead but Ruffell, with the last bowl of the match, cut the scoring to one to win 12 shots to 11.
Reid was always in control in his semi against Ray Christensen, jumping out to a 12-2 lead after eight ends.
Christensen fought back with five shots over the next two ends but Reid countered by scoring five shots over the next three ends to run out the winner 17-7.

The women’s pairs held on Sunday were won by Debs Ruffell and Lyn Brown with four wins, 21 ends and 44 points.
Second were Carolyn Cooper and Ann-Maree Blissett, also with four wins and 21 ends, but with 42 points.
In the men’s pairs, Alan Reid and John Dawson won four games and drew one to run out winners from Derek Cooper and James Blissett with four wins.
This Saturday there is progressive triples (single entries), and on Sunday the Hight Trophy will be contested against Ashburton, in Ashburton, in the second representative game of the season.
On Wednesday, May 8 South Canterbury will once again play Ashburton, this time for the Calder Shield in Timaru.
On May 11 the Washdyke club will hold its annual triples tournament with proceeds being donated to Hospice.
