OVER 500 spectators converged on Devonshire Road to witness a historic occasion for the debut in the Amateur game of former NRL super star, Tongan and New Zealand international Fui Fui Moi Moi.

The big forward helped Millom - fourth in the table of the Conference third division to defeat third placed Leigh East in a closely fought eight minutes.

The town of Millom was buzzing with the news that the former Parramatta star Moi moi had signed for the club. Moi Moi at the age of 43, fulfilled his dream of playing alongside nephews and fellow Tongan's Hosea and Naki Saumaki.

The townsfolk came out in their hundreds despite a wet and windy afternoon to cheer their side to victory in a game that went to the wire.

Leigh went ahead with an unconverted try holding their lead to almost the half time whistle.Then the Woolybacks hit back to go in at the break with a 90 yard interception try from Jackson Evans converted by Lee Postlethwaite (6-4).

The home side increased their lead early in the second half with a Kyle Evans try converted by Postlethwaite (12-4).

Leigh came back to reduce the deficit with a converted try (12-10) ,however Millom, not to be outdone, stormed back to stretch their lead with a Rio McQuiston try converted by Postlethwaite (18-10).

Leigh never gave up the chase and came within two points of their hosts with a converted try (18-16). As the clock ticked down Leigh were awarded a penalty but failed to convert.

Barrow Island were also winners; they defeated third placed in division two Shaw Cross away from home 19-12.

Both teams were short of regular first teamers and it was the Island who went ahead with a Finn Dutton Rosconi try (0-4).

It was soon 0-10 when Josh McBain went in for a try converted by Dutton.The Cross came back with two tries and a conversion prior to Dutton sending over a penalty goal (10-12).

Carl McBain then went in for a great try converted by Dutton with the home side adding a penalty goal (12-18). Dec Baines rounded off the scoring with a drop goal.

In the NWML, Hindpool were 16-10 winners at Walney to record their third win of the season.

Tries coming from Paul Rickelton,Cameron McDermott and Lewis Sayle with two goals from Lewis Stables. For Walney tries from Elliot Bibby and Dec Gavin with one goal from Brad Foristal.

Elsewhere, Dalton came back with a point from their 22-22 draw at Chorley Panthers with tries coming from Joe Crarey, Brad Richards, Harri Brown and Tom Sharpe with Pat Kelly adding three goals.

Roose Pioneers went down 36-32 at Newton Storms with tries from Matty Gedling, Matty Roberts, Antoni Kudelski and Finn McMillan with four goals also coming from Rickie Donaghue.

In that same match, youngster Olli Dilks suffered a broken collarbone.
