BETH Tweddle’s Olympic medal dream is still on after securing qualification today.

The 27-year-old from Bunbury, who started out with Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics Club when she was seven years old, helped Great Britain reach Tuesday’s team final at the Greenwich Arena today.

And her 16.133 on the uneven bars was the highest score of the day as she reached the individual final on that apparatus on Monday, August 6.

The closest the three-times world champion has come to an Olympic medal was in Beijing four years ago when she finished fourth in the uneven bars final with 16.625.

Tweddle’s qualification score today was her highest since Beijing.

She said: "I've thought about this competition and this bars routine for so long and to produce my best score this Olympic cycle in qualifying - it couldn't be any better.

“The team are like sisters and we all pulled together today and relished the pressure. The balance of the team with the experience of Imogen Cairns going up first on beam and Rebecca Tunney only 15 and performing brilliantly - and Hannah Whelan and Jenni Pinches with great all-around displays - it worked perfectly.

“For me today was the big pressure day, people tried to calm me but deep down you know you have to perform so to go out and do it is brilliant."

TeamGB finished qualified in fifth place and will have company from, in scoring order, USA, Russia, China, Romania, Japan, Italy and Canada in Tuesday’s final at 4.30pm.
