NCNA Committee
Chairperson - Sarah Croft
Concordia Netball Club I tend to love all things netball, from playing to spectating with a little bit of coaching, table officiating and general volunteering in between. I play netball for Concordia Netball Club and it is awesome being part of the team. I was lucky enough to be part of the pivoteer squad at the netball world cup this year as well as being able to be part of our own satellite coaching team. |
I have been on the committee for over 2 years now and it has been fab to be able to see how Northumberland is developing and growing. We have some amazing talent across the county and some really dedicated coaches, umpires and volunteers, who it is great to work with. I can't wait to see how we are able to come together to make Northumberland become even greater.
If you can't find me on the netball court just look for me in the mountains on my snowboard!

Astley Netball Club I have played netball from a very young age and have been playing throughout the years until now. Even as a mother of 3 I still find the time to fit in my favourite pastime. I help out at my club as a coach to the juniors, an umpire, committee members and most importantly I participate as a player and captain for my team. I am also Affiliations Secretary to Astley Netball Club and I help organise the operations in the club. |
I joined NCNA in 2018 and I hope I will be able to continue to contribute and support clubs and the committee with the affiliation process. My passion and commitment to the sport remains as strong as ever.

Competitions Secretary - Jolene Byers
Ponteland Junior Netball Club and Astley Netball Club I was the founder of Ponteland Junior Netball Club when it started up in 2008. I started teaching in the local area and wanted to give those I taught the opportunity to access club standard netball. 5 months later I went along to Astley Netball and started training with them, having not played since school and only recalling player at 6th form as my background was football I then went on to find my love for the sport. |
I took over as head coach of Astley Netball Club after 2 years, and became involved in the performance pathways in Northumberland at this point. I now eat, drink and breathe the sport. I have been recognised twice at regional for my contribution, I run the junior and senior leagues, I am a c award umpire about to embark on my b award and successfully run 2 clubs, I am performance coach and I teach also in Northumberland.

Concordia Netball Club I started playing netball at the age of 12 for Concordia Netball Club and never looked back. I was in the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and North East regional academies until I was 18 years old. I went to Northumbria University where I continued my netball development as a player, in my 3rd year I was invited to trial for England Netball NETs team and was successful in making the squad. I then went on to represent my country as captain at the World Cup in South Africa. I finished university and I took over the coaching role at Concordia Netball Club which has seen us thrive as a club. |
I won Coach of the Year for Northumberland after successfully winning
Northumberland leagues, securing Tyne and Wear division 1 and qualifying for the North East Regional League as a player coach. Along with being nominated as North East team of the year at the regional awards.
I took over the role of performance lead 2 years ago as I wanted to give back to northumberland netball after receiving so much support from them over the years. I am very excited about the talent that we have within the out you and can’t wait to see them grow into the future of Northumberland Netball.

Wansbeck Netball Club I have been involved with netball since my school playing days over 30 years ago. I joined Morpeth Netball Club when I left school. After a few years of moving training venues, the Morpeth club settled in Bedlington and that is when my club changed its name to Wansbeck Netball Club. |
Club membership began to grow and before we knew it we had 4 ladies teams. I eventually was selected to play on the first team playing my favourite position Centre and sometimes Wing Attack. As the club began to grow in numbers, I started to get interested in coaching and would often help the club coach during training sessions.
At the same time we started up a junior club and once again I found myself giving up some
more of my time to assist.
I took my Level 1 Coaching Award followed by Bridging The Gap Award as it was described in those days. The next step was to work towards my umpiring qualification taking the C Award which I gained in June 2004.
In the meantime, I had been invited to join the County Committee. Initially it was just as a committee member but I was soon given the task of Publicity Officer. It was a job I had done for many years at my club, sending in weekly match reports and photographs to advertise and promote the sport of netball.
It wasn't long before I was volunteered into the job of County League Secretary. A role I did for over 12 years alongside organising presentation and awards evenings for ladies and junior leagues. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, I had to step down from this role and my involvement with the committee.
After a short spell away, I rekindled my involvement with the County and was soon back sending those match results to the local papers.
Netball has been my life for many years having been involved in many different roles at both club and county level. I've always said it's like having another job but a one you get great pleasure and enjoyment from.
