The tournament at the Copper Box Arena will have London Pulse involved later this month

Red Bull Switch Up is back for its third year and players from some of the UK’s top amateur netball teams will test their skills at London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday week (November 17).

With key differences from the standard sport of netball – with the game being played over half a regular court and players being able to shoot from outside the D – Red Bull Switch Up champions the game’s true all-rounders.

Superleague team London Pulse play at the Copper Box Arena and will compete in the tournament alongside top university sides like the University of Bath.

Red Bull Switch Up is a netball competition, but not as you know it. The unique set of rules are designed to test the versatility of individual players and teams, with every player able to shoot and forced to quickly turn their game play from attack to defence.

Teams of four players compete for five-minute halves on a half-court with just one goal.

Points are awarded for each goal depending on the player’s position in the three scoring zones available. Two points are awarded for a win and one point for a draw.

In a tournament first, there will be spectators at London’s Copper Box Arena to watch Vitality Netball Superleague team London Pulse do battle against sides such as University of Bath Netball (Team Bath), Liverpool University Netball Club, UCL Netball Club and Poly Netball Club.

Former England player and Wasps head coach Tamsin Greenway will be commentating at the tournament and providing advice to players and telling them about her experiences throughout the day.

Greenway said: “Red Bull Switch Up is the perfect tournament to find the ‘all round’ netballer and I’m excited with the high standard of teams confirmed for this year.

“The atmosphere will be even more electric with the added pressure of playing in front of a huge crowd.

“It’ll be great to see how the top teams such as London Pulse cope with the unique rules and pressure.”

The Challenger teams will be required at the event between 8.30am and 1.30pm while the Elite teams will do battle between 1pm and 6pm with the final taking place later in the evening.
