Residents are enjoying a game of pickleball on the regulation quad-courts at Antilles Flamingo Club.

A key component in Antilles’ active lifestyle planning is the exceptional amount of space it has devoted to shared community activities.  In addition to its five-acre Kingfisher Lake and adjacent unspoiled Wetland Preserve, linear parks have been created to encourage hiking, nature explorations and a general outdoor-exercise plan.  Bench hydration and pet convenience stations are being installed across the property in anticipation of homeowners’ needs.  The fabulous Flamingo Club at Antilles offers 5,000 air-conditioned square feet of community oriented amenities, including business and conference rooms, catering, kitchen and dining areas, and general socializing, games and gathering spaces.  The exercise and fitness center is fitted out with professional equipment ranging from treadmills, recumbent bikes, bench press with graduated-size weights and free weights, to medicine and balance balls, plus varied-tension exercise stretch bands.  Massage services can be concierge-scheduled.

About one-half of the Flamingo Club’s space is occupied by its huge Gathering Room that overlooks the outdoor living area, Lake and Preserve.  It offers distinct areas for socializing, from a lounge area complete with fireplace, big screen TV and comfortable upholstered seating, to multiple tables with plush side chairs perfect for cards, dining and conversational groupings, to Sonny’s Cafe with its snack bar seating.  It is positioned to become Antilles’ hub from morning coffee through evening brews.

Antilles’ outdoor living area is almost twice as large as the Flamingo Club, adding 9,000 more square feet of luxury appointments.  The Club’s entire rear elevation consists of floor to ceiling windows and doors focusing on its singular 3,500 square foot Resort Pool and Spa.  The Pool’s sun-shelf entry and stunning negative edge perimeter create the illusion of endless waters spilling from it into Kingfisher Lake and the Preserve just beyond.  When highlighted at night, the Pool and the Lake’s twin triple-tiered fountains will be a dramatic sight, exclusively for Antilles’ homeowners.

The expansive arbor-covered Conversation and Fire Pit is to the left of the Pool.  Its built-in bench seating will encourage comfortable lounging and become another outdoor space for socializing.  The Tiki Hut on the opposite side of the pool deck adds a uniquely Florida kind of open air gathering space for Antilles’ homeowners.  Its al fresco seating and umbrella-shaded tables offer bird’s eye views of the game courts.  Twin Bocce Ball courts have been astroturfed for year round play.  Chief among the ancient lawn sport’s enduring charms is that regulation play can be maintained while competing well into the evening and with a wine glass in one hand.

Not so much for Pickleball.  Antilles’ regulation quad-courts are already in use.  At last month’s Grand Opening Celebration, JMD Development hosted a few local teams during regional tournaments.  For those who are not yet familiar with the very popular and relatively new sport, each Pickleball court is the size of a double’s badminton pitch yet striped like a tennis court.  As an American invention dating to 1965, it came about by chance when regulation badminton equipment was not available for a group of friends in Washington state.  By 1972 the substitutions were standardized and Pickleball was incorporated, its name a reference to a boating term.

In addition to the Flamingo Club’s combined 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor luxury amenities, Antilles has been developed with attention to high value improvements.  The site

is distinguished by an exuberance of mature palms.  Five hundred - fifty Sabal Palms, Florida’s state tree, line two sides of the fifty-four acre development, creating a majestic backdrop for the community’s updated West Indies Island style architecture.  The detailed brickwork of the  monument entry and its twin gates will add another layer of distinction.  The site has always been Antilles greatest asset.  Set back at the quiet end of a long approach rich is old Florida color, the beauty inherent in this setting is a sub-tropical wonderland of natural assets. During the course of construction, many local waterfowl, birds and native species have been photographed in their habitats which will remain untouched within Antilles’ protected Wetland Preserve.
