A man is in hospital with 'life-changing' injuries after an early-morning incident at a prestigious country club in north London.

Police are at the scene at Trent Park Country Club in Bramley Road, Oakwood, with forensic investigations believed to be under way.

The man was taken to an east London hospital by paramedics after an incident is thought to have occurred shortly before 1am yesterday.

More than 17 hours later, at around 6.20pm, police were called to the hospital 'regarding the condition' of the patient, Scotland Yard said.

The force told Mirror Online his injuries are thought to be life-changing.

Today, confused golfers from Trent Park Golf Club, on the same site as the country club, turned up to find the area "taped off and manned by officers".

One local described how police were "doing forensics" at the scene.

Meanwhile, a driver who travelled past the country club last night, claimed she saw at least eight police vehicles and a large crowd outside it.

Taking to Twitter, she said officers were still at the scene this morning, adding: "Golfers waiting outside to go in. Wonder what happened."

The country club is described on its website as a "premium" venue that has a "unique" restaurant and bar and a "luxury nightclub area". It is thought that the incident occurred around the main bar entrance, although this is not confirmed.

Trent Park Football Centre was also inaccessible today following the incident, with a scheduled five-a-side competition cancelled.

In a statement to Mirror Online, the Metropolitan Police said: "At approximately 18:18hrs on 01 September, police were called to an east London hospital regarding the condition of a patient.

"The man, aged in his 50s, had been taken to hospital by colleagues from the London Ambulance service.

"It is believed the incident had taken place shortly before 01:00hrs. The man remains in hospital with injuries that are believed to be life-changing.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

The force said there has been no arrest.

Trent Park Golf Club said the "whole site" was not accessible after the incident.

In a statement via Facebook today, it said: "We regret to inform our customers that access to the whole site today has been barred by the Police who are investigating an incident that occurred on Friday evening in the vicinity of the Country Club main bar entrance."

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to our customers and will post further information when the complex reopens."

It added that the club's thoughts and prayers were with the man and his family.

The KOPA League also posted a statement on the incident.

It said: "Unfortunately due to an incident at Trent Park the 5 a side competition has been cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience caused to all."

Mirror Online has contacted the London Ambulance Service for comment.
