Colyton Grammar student, Emma Hurst won the 18U Singles and 18U Girls’ Doubles Trophies at the Devon County Closed Championships last week at Ivybridge Tennis Centre.
Beating Torquay’s Rebecca Ley in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 in the Final, Emma took the Devon 18U title, won by Sue Barker in 1971 and 1972.
Partnering her school team mate Lara Graney, she then went on to land the 18U Doubles 6-1, 6-0 against Chloe Sluce and Kate Absalom from Ivybridge.
Emma’s Coach, Derek Blackmore from Seaton Tennis Club said: “After a successful summer competing and reaching the last 16 at Nationals at Nottingham, Emma is now ranked fifth in the UK for her age group which is a real achievement.”
