With no blemishes on its record, the Milpitas High varsity badminton team entered this week at 7-0.

At home on March 31, Milpitas won 18-12 against league opponent Homestead High School. On March 10 at Homestead, the Trojans won 17-13.

Milpitas was scheduled to visit Santa Clara High School on Tuesday and to host Los Altos High School on Thursday. Both are league foes.

With a win against Los Altos, Milpitas could wrap up a league title, coach Larry Chan said.

Golfers fall to Lynbrook, Monta Vista

In a three-way match on March 29 at Deep Cliff Golf Course in Cupertino, the Milpitas High golf team lost to league opponents Lynbrook and Monta Vista high schools.

Lynbrook’s score of 171 came in 25 strokes fewer than Milpitas’ score of 196. Meanwhile, Monta Vista’s score of 176 came in 20 strokes fewer than Milpitas’ score of 196. The Trojans’ top players by average stroke counts per round were freshman Alex Fang, 35, senior Christian Bui, 37, and junior Casey Santiago, 38, according to coach Brett Burns.

Milpitas was scheduled to host Wilcox High School on Tuesday, Washington High School on Wednesday and visit Wilcox at Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club on Thursday. Wilcox is a league foe.

Tennis falls back into losing streak

After breaking a five-match losing streak on March 24, the Milpitas High boys varsity tennis team has fallen into another losing streak.

On March 31 at Los Gatos High School, Milpitas lost 6-1. A day earlier, the Trojans fell 7-0 at Gunn High School. A match against visiting Cupertino High School, initially set for Friday, is to be rescheduled. Los Gatos is a league opponent.

Milpitas was scheduled to host Fremont on Tuesday and Mountain View on Thursday. Both are league opponents.

Losing streak snapped for softball

After breaking a six game losing streak on March 29, the Milpitas High varsity softball team lost the three straight games last week.

The Lady Trojans, 5-10 overall and 0-4 league, stumbled in both games on Saturday at the Wilcox High School Tournament at Mission College. Milpitas lost 11-0 to Prospect High School and 5-1 to Branham High School. Also, visiting Saratoga High School posted an 8-0 win against Milpitas on Friday.

On March 29 in a league game, Milpitas defeated Cupertino High School 6-1.

Milpitas was scheduled to visit Homestead High School on Wednesday and to host Monta Vista High School on Friday. Both are league opponents.

Boys swimmers top Santa Clara

At league opponent Santa Clara High School on March 31, the Milpitas High varsity boys and Frosh/Soph boys teams came away with wins while the varsity girls and junior varsity girls both lost.

Milpitas’ varsity boys won 120-56 and the Frosh/Soph boys won 101-70.

On the girls side, varsity narrowly fell 89-85 and junior varsity girls lost 110-66. Freshman Heather Grey won the 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly. She also made the cut for Central Coast Section trials.

Also for Milpitas, junior Kelly Troung won the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke, junior Mark Tran won the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter butterfly, junior Rolland Chin won the 100-meter breaststroke and all the boys relay teams won.

Milpitas was scheduled to visit league foe Cupertino High School on Thursday.

Track, field teams fall to Gunn

At league opponent Gunn High School on March 31, all four Milpitas High track and field teams lost to the Titans.

Varsity girls lost 83-44 with the 4-by-100-meter relay team of senior Breya Carter, junior Cindy Duong, freshman Alexis Ranger-Dunbar and junior Maria Simone Tayaba taking first place with a new record time of 50.58 seconds. The team is currently ranked ninth in Central Coast Section.

Junior varsity girls narrowly lost 64-63. Freshman Skylar Pitre took first place in all her individual events — 100-meter hurdles in a new personal record time of 16.90 seconds, 100 meters in a new personal record time of 12.97 seconds and 200 meters in a time of 27.64 seconds.

On the boys side, varsity lost 67-60. Senior Christian Haangana took first in the discus with a distance of 133 feet, 8 inches. He placed second in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, 5 inches.

Junior Richard Sung won 200 meters in a new personal record time of 23.45 seconds and placed second in the 100 meters in a new personal record time of 11.56 seconds.

In the Frosh/Soph boys 94-32 loss, sophomore Christian Aspiras won the 100 meters in a new personal record time of 11.50 and placed first in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 2.75 inches. He also placed second in the 200 meters in a new personal record time of 24.75 seconds.

At the Stanford Invitational at Stanford University on Friday and Saturday, senior Devin Crummie placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.17 seconds. With a new personal record of 1:57.66, Andrew Buchanan placed 14th in the 800 meters.

The 4-by-100-meter relay team of Buchanan, senior Dejaun Crummie, senior Jeremy Shaw and Sung finished 17th with a new season best time of 3:29.42.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Cindy Duong finished 18th with a time of 68.83 seconds.

Milpitas was scheduled to host league foe Lynbrook High School on Tuesday. Also this weekend, Milpitas is sending athletes to the Quicksilver Invitational at Leland High School on Saturday and Devin Crummie qualified to compete in the 110-meter hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High School in Arcadia, Calif.
