Friday’s high school baseball and softball roundup: Northwestern Lehigh baseball gets walk-off win over Salisbury

Sam Mauro singled in pinch-runner Wes George with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning as Northwestern Lehigh pulled out a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Salisbury in Colonial League baseball action on Friday.

Austin Eisenhard started the winning rally with a double and was replaced on the bases by George. Cannon Fitch had a single in the eighth before the big hit by Mauro.

Three Tigers pitchers Chase Moyer, Josh Lichman and Shaun O’Donnell combined on a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Salisbury’s Tommy Lovelidge and Owen Fogel combined to hold Northwestern to four hits.

Colonial League Baseball

Palmerton 10, Catasauqua 7

A six-run fourth inning broke the game open for the Blue Bombers. Trey Sterling had four hits and knocked in four runs. Jacob Grammes had two hits and three RBIs. Hunter Reitz had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Rough Riders.

Bangor 8, Wilson 6

The Slaters trailed 6-3 before scoring three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Blake Kornafel had two RBIs, while Dylan Keith, Rydell Hunter and MJ Siu had two hits for Bangor, which has started the 3-0 after going 9-12 last season.

Elsewhere

Palisades pounded Northern Lehigh 18-4 and Saucon Valley beat Notre Dame-Green Pond 5. No other information provided.

EPC Baseball

Nazareth 14, Pleasant Valley 2

Jake Dally hit a three-run home run and drove in four runs at the plate and also worked five strong innings on the mound as Nazareth notched its second straight win. Dally also had an RBI double and David Bertz hit a 3-run home run in a 4-RBI day. Preston Warne added a bases-empty home run. Dally struck out nine, walked one and allowed four hits.

EPC Softball

Stroudsburg 19, East Stroudsburg North 0

The Mounties rolled to a 3-inning, mercy-rule win. Mandy Gizzo led the offense by going 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Melissa Safin added three hits. Dot Elko went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and stole two bases. Hannah Helm and Vanessa DeFalco combined for five strikeouts in notching the shutout as Stroudsburg improved to 1-1.

Northampton 6, Kutztown 2

Emma Fraley had two hits, including a double, at the plate and tossed a a 2-hitter with five strikeouts as the Konkrete Kids notched a nonleague win. Angela Fisher, Nicole Yellen and Hannah Duerr had two hits apiece for Northampton (2-0).

Whitehall 9, Easton 4

Hailey Bartosh and Kate Yadush both doubled and homered and combined for 7 RBIs as the Zephyrs rolled to an EPC road win. Kassy Aquino went the distance, allowing just three hits and no earned runs. She didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Bethlehem Catholic 21, Allentown CCHS 0

Mia Van Fleet Mia was the winning pitcher in a 3-inning, mercy-rule win. She gave up one hit with seven strikeouts and didn’t walk anyone. She also walked twice, had a hit and knocked in three runs.

Nazareth 9, Pleasant Valley 2

Freshman Avery Kauffman tossed a 4-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Alina Weaver hit a 2-run home run as the Blue Eagles bounced back from a season-opening loss to Liberty. Natalie Chloros had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs and Lily Moretti had a triple and 3 RBIs.

Freedom 14, Allen 0

The Patriots improved to 3-0 with a 4½-inning win. Maia D’Amico tripled and knocked in three doubles. Daniela Guzzo and Julia Heineman doubled and had 2 RBIs and Landy Guman and Maddie Cooper each had 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Namelia Duro and Brooke Rummel combined on a 1-hitter with 9 strikeouts.

Colonial League softball

Palisades 3, Northern Lehigh 1

Pirates sophomore Karlye Teman tossed a no-hitter earlier in the week and followed it up with a 5-hitter against the Bulldogs. She walked three and struck out five and also had two of her team’s five hits, including a home run. Haylie Fenstermaker had two of Northern Lehigh’s hits. Palisades improved to 2-0 while the Bulldogs fell to 1-2.

Palmerton 10, Catasauqua 8

Five different Blue Bombers hit home runs in a 15-hit attack. Sydney Frantz was one of the Palmerton players with a home run. She had three hits and scored three runs. Megan Matsko tripled and homered among her 3 hits and drove in two runs. Other home runs were hit by Hailey Barry, Emily Christopher and Hailey Delgado. Carly Gaffney scattered four hits, walked two and struck out seven as Palmerton improved to 3-0.

Northwestern Lehigh 10, Salisbury 0

Abby Dunstan and Isabelle Akelaitis both doubled twice and Rylee McGinley had three hits and three RBIs as the Tigers rolled to their third straight win of the season. Marissa Christman added two hits, including a double. Elizabeth Carney had two hits and a walk for the Falcons.

Saucon Valley 5, Notre Dame 4

Emma Mininger hit a 2-run home run and Matty Seyfriend was the winning pitcher as the Panthers improved to 2-0.

Bangor 9, Wilson 7

The Slaters trailed 7-6 before erupting for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a road win. Jaelyn Silfies homered and was one of our four Slaters with 2 RBIs. Kristina Langdon, Brook Hermanski and Kyleena Gonzalez all drove in two runs for the Slaters who bounced back from a season-opening loss to Palisades.
