Family sports festival GoFest arrives at SportCity this Saturday, giving kids the chance to have a go at 18 different activities.

From school yard favourites such as netball and basketball, to more adventurous activities like fencing and korfball, there's bound to be something the kids will take a shine to.

It's not just for the kids either, as the festival is encouraging families to 'have a go' together - so stick on your gym gear and get stuck in.

Take a look at the sports clubs heading down to lead the sport sessions taking place on the day.

England Netball

England Netball will be coaching families throughout the day, with expert coaches giving top tips on how to improve technique and become a star player.

Kids over the age of 4 can play - and the first session starts at 9am.


Vx International

You might not know about this one, but Vx International is proving popular with kids across the country. It's a cross between dodge ball and lacrosse, originally called Rock-It-Ball, it was launched in February 2006 at the Youth Sport Trust in Yorkshire.

The sessions are designed for kids between 6 and 8 years, taking place in the indoor arena from 9am.

Premier Sport Volleyball & Handball

Popular on the beach, volleyball is a great choice for kids and adults looking for a fun sport - and don't want to pick up a racquet.

Coaches from Premier Sport will be around all day to show you how to perfect your skills.

Sessions will take place in the National Squash centre and kids over the age of 6 can play.


Manchester Mystics Basketball

Manchester Mystics, based Whalley Range at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, will be heading to GoFest this weekend to show the kids how to shoot some hoops.

Coached by Jeff Jones, the senior team are a real force in British basketball's top flight - so these players really know their stuff.

The basketball sessions will kick off in the regional arena from 1pm.


Manchester Badminton Academy

If you fancy whipping out your racket and showing off your shuttlecock skills, or just want to learn the basic rules of badminton - now's your chance.

Manchester Badmintion Academy will be holding sessions in the Regional Arena from 9am. Kids ages 5 and over can take part.


Manchester Hawks Korfball

What is korfball? It's a Dutch sport described as a mixture between netball and basketball, consisting of two teams with 8 players.

Manchester Hawks was set up in 2010 by Manchester University Graduates, and was created purely for fun.

The team will be teaching kids from the age of 6 how to play this unique game. The fun kicks off in the indoor arena from 11am.


Ashton Fencing Club

For kids who are fans of Star Wars, or just love the thought of a plastic sword fight - fencing could be the perfect sport for them.

Ashton Fencing Club will be bringing a ton of plastic fencing swords for kids and families to have their very own duel - and learn some combat skills.

Fencing was hugely popular at the 2017 summer GoFest - so it may be worth booking your place now.

Crazy Legs Sprinting

For kids with bags of energy to burn, Crazy Legs' sprinting sessions are sure to tire them out.

There will be a number of sessions taking place, with races and relays on the running track.

The first session starts at 9am, and will run every hour until 5pm.

This activity is suitable for kids between the ages of 5 and 9.


Superstars Athletics

From high jump and long jump, to javelin and shot put - top coaches will be at GoFest to show you how to go for gold.

This activity is specifically for kids over 8 years old, so younger ones will have to give this a miss.

The Superstars athletics team will be running the sessions every hour from 9.00am.


Eastlands Trust Squash & Racquetballand Table Tennis

Squash and racquetball are becoming increasingly popular with kids in Greater Manchester. With the England Squash organisation recently visiting schools across the city, your kids may already know the basics of the game.

Top coaches and players from the National Squash Centre will be on hand to teach kids everything they need to know about the fast-paced game.

Kids over the age of 4 can play, and the first session takes place at 9am in the National Squash Centre.


Free Dance & Fitness Classes

For anyone who doesn't fancy any of the activities above, there will also be a number of dance and fitness classes taking place throughout the day. From salsa dancing with SOSA, to street dance for the kids, there are a variety of classes to choose from.


SOSA Dance & Fitness classes - Similar to Zumba but a little more latin. For ages 4+
Little Superstars Street Dance - Street dance for kids aged 4-16
Premier Performance Dance Classes - A variety of different dance styles. For ages 4+
Pound Fit with Dee Owen - A dance class with drumsticks, allowing you to unleash your inner rock star. For ages 4+
