Yateley CC batsmen resist Marlow CC's bowling attack to grab a share of the points

Graeme Paskins

Yateley's lower order resisted Marlow’s bowling attack to finish with a share of the points in Saturday’s TVL Division 1 match.

On an overcast, cool day, Yateley won the toss and elected to field, getting off to a great start when Imran Nawag was removed with the second ball of the match.

Barney Hogg joined Joe Brown in the middle but soon followed Nawag back to the pavilion with the score on 21-2 in the eighth over.

Brown then lowered anchor, batting his way to 106 with support from Graeme Paskins (57), and the pair put on 131 for the next wicket. Paskins went with the score on 152 before son Nic put on a quickfire 54 with Brown for the fifth wicket. The hosts then lost a raft of wickets chasing quick runs and they finished on 241-8.

Yateley’s reply suffered an early blow when Jacques Pienaar fell to the second ball of the innings from Paul Brzezicki (2-21 in 13 overs) before Marlow reduced their visitors to 67-6.

The home side could smell victory but Anthony Muir (74no) and Sam Kennett (34) had other ideas, putting on 115 for the next wicket. Kennett fell with the score on 182, and with Jeremy Batty taking 4-64 in 17 overs, Marlow always held the upper hand, but Yateley saw out their overs with a wicket in hand, finishing on 194-9.

Marlow picked up 15 points to the eight awarded to Yateley.
