It was a case of a job well done for Slough Town this week, as they avoided banana skin clashes with wins over Leighton Town and North Greenford United to keep alive their play-off hopes.

The Rebels went behind at home to Leighton but recovered to win 4-1 with goals from Scott Harris, Dave Woozley, and two second half goals from Johnnie Dyer.

And Tuesday night’s 7-1 (seven) win at North Greenford United lifted the Rebels to third in the table, however, Baker still believes they’re the outsiders to claim a play-off berth. Scott Harris netted a hat-trick, Eddie Smith chipped in with two and Adam Cornell and Warren Harris were also on target.

After the game Jon Underwood said: “Job done, another one ticked off, but seven more to go.

“We’ve been dealing with pressure for a number of games now because we’ve known there is little margin for error.”

His co-manager Baker added: “In reality they’re games that people expected us to win. But you’ve still got to go and do it.

“And both sides showed they had the ability to cause us an upset. Leighton started well and defended well for the first 20 minutes, but we managed to get a couple of goals before half-time and then managed to get the better of them. And on Tuesday we went 2-0 up, but they got it back to 2-1 and had a couple of chances which could have made it a different story.”

Despite falling behind in the 10th minute on Saturday, Baker was always confident his side had the firepower to blast their way back into the game.

“No disrespect to Leighton but I always felt that we’d get some chances. In the last three or four games we’ve gone 1-0 down so we knew we were capable of getting back into the game. Once we get the goals it changes their approach to the game.

“We’ve lost only one game since Christmas. To have gone 12 games and won nine and drawn two of those games is an incredibly good run of form. We had a tough December, where we had a lot of suspensions and injuries, and before that we’d won five from five, so if we’d just managed to get a couple of wins from those games we’d have been playing for the league title now and not just the play-offs.”

Baker is now looking for the Rebels to continue their unbeaten run against Royston Town at Holloways Park tomorrow on Saturday, and at play-off rivals Barton Rovers on Thursday, April 3.
