Cippenham’s senior men’s side kept up the pressure on National Division 4 leaders Ellenborough after winning both of their matches last weekend.

The team collected a maximum of four points from the weekend, moving up to third in the table, level on points with Waterside who they’ve got to play in the final weekend of matches.

Both sides sit four points behind Ellenborough and will play the Enfield-based side on the final weekend next month – making for an intriguing end to the season.

Cippenham weren’t able to call on Silviu Garduli for Saturday’s opening game against Horsham Spinners but, with Martin Adams, Rob Hansell and Steve Munson in imperious form, it mattered little.

They won 7-2 overall with Adams dropping just 29 points over six matches. He dispatched Asa Gauntlett and Rory Scott 3-0, but Hansell was made to work a little harder for his victories and was taken to a deciding game by John Robinson. Munson showed his resolve, coming from 2-0 down to beat Henry Maric-Murray, winning 11-9 in the fifth.

Paul Baker was a late call-up for the afternoon contest against Generation 2, which they won 6-3. Hansell claimed easy wins over Valmiki Sinanan and Ugur Saglik to maintain his unbeaten record, while Adams got the better of Ed Slot and Sinanan 3-1. Munson beat Mike Rhodes 3-0 but came unstuck against Slot.

Baker took the second game off Saglik before going down to a 3-1 defeat and was then beaten by Rhodes.
