Farnham Royal CC crowdfund to mitigate against damage caused by pandemic

Farnham Royal Cricket Club is hoping to raise £20,000 through crowdfunding over the next few months to mitigate against the financial damage caused by the COVID1-9 pandemic.

The 132-year-old club, which has two adult teams playing in the Thames Valley League as well as an active youth section, is seeking to ensure its financial stability for future generations.

Farnham Royal are also looking to launch a girls and women’s section this year, funds permitting, to help bridge the diversity gap in the sport. In addition, the ground is also regularly used by the Berkshire Stags, the county’s visually impaired cricket team as well as the Bucks over 50s and over 60s teams.

“We provide an important place for the young community of Slough and the Farnhams to come and join in with training sessions and matches throughout the summer,” said Melanie Ive, the club’s head of cricket.

“We run both ECB Allstars and Dynamos groups for children aged between six and 17, and these are run by professional coaches. Some of our youth players have gone on to play county cricket and we have a great player pathway in place to support young players through to playing for their county.

“From the above hopefully it is apparent that our focus is on inclusion. If you like cricket then from the age of six to 67, irrespective of your gender, race or ability, there will be opportunities for you to play cricket at this club.”
