Lucienne Day

Lucienne Day Fabrics

Lucienne Day was, without doubt, the most influential and significant of all 1950's pattern designers. Her designs and fabrics changed the look of modern interiors and brought a freshness and vitality to the decor of that era. Lucienne Day fabrics look splendid in a mid-century context but are just as good in a contemporary home.

Lucienne Day Textiles

We present a special collection of Lucienne Day textiles, manufactured in the UK under licence from the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation.

Some of the designs that we offer are special reprints by John Lewis.

Robin and Lucienne Day worked for John Lewis as design consultants from 1962–1987, overseeing a transformation of every aspect of the firm’s house style. They greatly admired the John Lewis ethos, and enjoyed a close personal friendship with Harry Legg, Director of Research and Expansion.

Lucienne Day also designed for Cavendish Textiles, a company owned by John Lewis. Her 1954 dress fabrics and mid-70s furnishing fabrics were brought back into production in 2014, as part of the John Lewis 150 Years celebration. Based on scrupulously careful archive research, a collection of curtain fabrics, cushions, dress fabrics and fashion was developed by John Lewis' design teams in close consultation with the Foundation.

Lucienne Day Upholstery and Curtain Fabric

Our Lucienne Day linen fabrics are strong and have a robust handle making them ideal for upholstery, whereas the cottons within the collection have a soft and easy drape, perfect for curtains.
