And so to Winchester Rugby Club Under 14’s who maintained the successful momentum on Sunday. They successfully retained the Hampshire Cup beating Portsmouth RFC in another keenly contested final. Congratulations one and all and for the support from team sponsors The Great Shutter Co. & The Smart Blind Co. and from club sponsors Gentian
Hopefully there are some future stars of our 1st XV in a few short years.
Coordination of the game calendar like this is going to be essential in bringing the finances of the game into better shape. The different set-ups of the various stakeholders make it challenging, but the commercial logic (no, necessity!) is compelling.
I suspect the bigger challenge is yet to be solved, and that's how to pool commercial rights in such a way as to spread the value of rugby's iconic events - Six Nations Rugby, The British & Irish Lions etc. - across the professional club game. That's where the value is.
Where do professional Rugby players come from? You probably think that the Premiership clubs and private schools provide them. But most start out at their local club. Grassroots rugby is the seedbed for rugby talent, and trust me, they don't turn up with all the skills on day one.
Rugby is a sport that you grow into physically, mentally and emotionally. If the right environment exists then the players will develop and go as far as they chose. At our club we put the focus on inclusion, retention and attendance, not try’s, trophies and medals.
Hearing Ben Stokes say England Cricket isn't results focused is fantastic for young sports people, although he has been wildly mis-understood. If the focus is on contribution, development and performance, then results should take care of themselves. Too many factors are out of the individual player’s control.
Our coaching teams focus on contribution, development and enjoyment for the players. The players can take their contribution to the professional level or into our senior teams, it is their choice. We are proud of them all.

When collating a list of the most influential rugby players of the last 60 years, there are many factors to consider beyond pure skill.
From Jonas Lomu to Richie McCaw and more, here are 6 players that we feel are a cut above the rest.
I have to say I found today a very dark day for Rugby. Another high profile player within a matter of weeks has not being handed the sufficient ban for the referees decision & TMO decision of a red card. We can debate all day that what Farrell did warranted worse than what Sexton was given, but the reality is that is not the case. Both committed two very serious offences and both have been not handed the six match ban required. The question needs to be asked where does this leave rugby when the core values of the Sport have been ripped to shreds? Why weren't the officials given the same level of respect for doing their jobs correctly and professionally? Where does rugby go from here? How can anyone be expected to referee a game when they can be subjected to such disrespect & their decisions not adhered to. Both decisions have ruined the integrity that Rugby held over most Sports. The game has now been made a mockery of and will have a Tsunami affect in every Rugby club across the globe #rugbyunion#rugbyworldcup2023#irishrugby#englandrugby#respect#integrity

What is rugby ?
Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. Rugby is simply based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends.
Rugby union is a popular sport around the world, played by people of all genders, ages and sizes. In 2014, there were more than 6 million people playing worldwide, of whom 2.36 million were registered players. World Rugby, previously called the International Rugby Football Board (IRFB) and the International Rugby Board (IRB), has been the governing body for rugby union since 1886, and currently has 101 countries as full members and 18 associate members.
