We sponsor two Grassroots football teams in our local community and this weekend they went head-to-head on the pitch as part of the Portsmouth Youth Football League. It was great to see the player’s surprised faces as Cowplain Youth Football Club and Fleur De-Lys Football Club (Victory Team) realised they had the same sponsorship logo on their tops, making the match even more competitive. We’ve sponsored the teams through the 2023/2024 season and are following their progress – best of luck to all the players involved! #grassrootsfootball #sponsorship #community

What you put in is often what you get out. It's like that universal law of reciprocity I heard about once... Talking about football club sponsorship this week Paul Coltman made a great point, it's about return on involvement. The 5 interviews we did about grassroots football sponsorship highlighted the opportunities sponsorship gives a business to be involved with a club, but also how the club gives back to the business owner. Here's what I took away: 1. If you run a business and have passion as a fan, you have a motive to get involved with a local club 2. Connection with other businesses can give you a return on investment 3. Watching games as a sponsor is an opportunity to have a drink and switch off 4. You can use your ticket allocation to bring a friend along, someone in your network or a member of your work team - just for a day out 5. The ad boards, shirt sponsorship, stand sponsorship and more are opportunities for the fans to get to know about you and what you do 6. There's a lot to be gained from helping the club with your own knowledge, business acumen, or even other resources. #football #sponsor #grassrootsfootball #opportunity #network #opportunities

Absolutely spot on Monty Proud to represent yourself and Jack for The University of Manchester and Govan & Uni of Manchester FC, two coaches and clubs who stood up for what was right without exception and made sure we did the same. Too often in the Manchester Football League and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) did I witness openly homophobic remarks made either towards teammates or generally. Incidents, which more often than not, went unpunished, even after reported. If brutally honest, I think we’re all aware that this rainbow laces campaign run by The Football Association has been the most lacklustre in years. A cynic may ponder whether this is due to the expose of Rainbow Washing characters like seemingly key allies such as England Vice-Captain Jordan Henderson. Whilst it is particularly disheartening to see an ally of the community turn his back for one last payday, scrutiny should start with those at the pinnacle of football decision making. It is no wonder that the LGBTQ+ community still feel unsafe in the game when examining FIFA’s selection for recent World Cup hosts. Russia 2018 Russian pro-LGBT advocacy groups are deemed extremist and banned, and it is illegal for individuals to "promote homosexuality". The nation provides no anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people and does not have a designation for hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Qatar 2022 Qatar criminalises same-sex sexual activity between men and between women. Sentences can include a possible maximum penalty of death by stoning. Saudi Arabia 2034 Saudi Arabia criminalises same-sex sexual activity between men and between women. The gender expression of trans people is also criminalised. Sentences include a maximum penalty of death. There is evidence of the law being enforced in recent years. It is therefore no surprise that grassroots football is still rife with anti-LGBT+ sentiment. Football needs to better, we must do more and it is why I am particularly proud and honoured to have represented strictly antifascist and outwardly inclusive clubs such as Govan & Uni of Manchester FC and Clapton CFC, where behaviour like this would be instantly shut down.
As the Stonewall Rainbow Laces campaign enters its 10th year it is just as important as ever to state that football is a game for all. Everyone should feel comfortable being their true self whether participating or attending. As we always have, the club will be providing free laces for any players that want to show their support for the campaign. #keepitup #purpleandproud #ManchesterFootball #CheshireFootball #ManchesterBusiness #sponsorship #sponsorshipopportunity #fallowfield #didsbury #chorlton #withington

Very interesting to see the differences between U.S. and EU in terms of sports sponsoring. Whilst EU football teams are likely being partnered with teams within their region which most likely will make them long-life partners, U.S. sports teams look like to be doing way more deals. Maybe this also has to do with the endless exposure capabilities sports teams in the U.S. are leveraging to the fullest.
We looked at 18,466 sponsors of European Football clubs and another 31,218 sponsors of U.S. team sports and discovered brands in EU are 20% more likely to sponsor just one club (loyalty? Locality?), than their counterparts in the U.S. On average, U.S. brands are doing 50% more deals, led in a big way by brands doing 5+ sponsorship deals (brands that scale sponsorships) (Credit: SponsorUnited) #sponsorship #footballbusiness #europe #sportsbiz

A great insight here from SponsorUnited comparing US and EU sponsorship deals. As European rights holders begin to get creative and offer new asset opportunities it will be interesting to see how this changes over the coming years and which brands decide to utilise additional exposure across multiple touchpoints.

2moGrassroots sport relies on voluntary support and businesses like TSL. I always like to acknowledge their support and share with those who are connected with me to showcase those businesses. Without them, some young people would not be able to play sport. Thank you to all those companies that support young people to play sport, learn teamwork and build friendships that will last for life. Thanks TSL.
