A personal post: Any given weekend in Wales you will see images like I captured below on Saturday at my beloved Rhigos RFC. Admittedly the scenery from Rhigos is breathtaking but I am also in awe of the volunteers and supporters that come out week after week, year after year to support grassroot rugby. Their dedication and support is invaluable. The impact of the club and game to the village is unmeasurable. I have been reminded recently that it’s being taken for granted that it will be ever present. I hope we don’t continue to test the theory, there are a huge number of clubs up and down the Valleys that form huge parts of the community. It’s reported that c3k people attended Mountain Ash V Abercynon this weekend so there is still plenty to be optimistic about Valley rugby. Get out there and support your local club, its needed now more than ever! #grassrootsrugby #community Dean Conway MCSP Jason Morris
Well said , I ve had many a battle on that pitch
Big game next weekend Simon!!
Great video and post Simon. Grassroots rugby and rugby clubs are the hub of the local community. Just like mine just down the Neath Valley in Tonna. Unfortunately, local clubs are struggling for player numbers, volunteers, and youth sides across Wales. We all need to support our local grassroots clubs and make them the community hubs, for years to come !!
Well said. My two local clubs of Beddau and Llantwit Fardre RFC do a huge amount for the community. I was at Penallta v Beddau shouting on the green and gold
This is excellent Simon (sat on a dining room chair, covered in mud having just got home from my club)

5moSimon, grass roots rugby, particularly at Junior level, is the life blood of the game, essential to the survival and growth of rugby across the UK. Until I retired as a county referee a couple of years ago, having served for over 50 years with the whistle, I supported the game at all levels almost every Sunday, even after my Saturday appointments. Seeing dozens of youngsters from under 8 to under 17, learning and playing the game, being coached by a fantastic army of volunteers, motivated me to always say “yes” when I was asked to turn out, whatever the weather.
