Ryan Snow from Bell Cornwell recently assisted a well-renowned tennis club in southern England with obtaining planning permission for an expansion project. The goal was to upgrade their outdated sports hall and add new sports facilities. The Bourne Club, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, offers tennis, fitness, and social activities. It serves members along with local schools, charities, and other groups. We advised the club from the start, managed consultants, and secured approval within the statutory timeframe. This is for a new building which will house 2 LTA-compliant tennis courts, replacing their existing hall and court. They will also add 2 additional outdoor padel courts, the UK’s fastest-growing sport. Our work included reviewing the plans, advising on application requirements, and drafting a Planning and Heritage Statement, which assessed the impact on a nearby conservation area among other matters. We concluded the project would not harm the area's character or the significance of the heritage asset Following submission, we managed the application through to a decision. Council planners agreed the high-quality design suits the local area. The heritage officer found the proposal would be sympathetic to the conservation area. Approval will allow the club to replace its outdated, inefficient sports hall that has reached the end of its lifespan. The new sustainable building will have better insulation, soundproofing, and lighting. Adding additional padel courts responds to huge demand, as the club is the first in the area to provide facilities for this sport. More courts will enable them to expand their junior and school programmes. Our expertise secured permission for these important upgrades to benefit the club and community.
