Last night, I went to play darts at Flight Club with my netball team. We were playing against each other but I noticed that we all responded differently to the competition. Some got their claws out, some hovered back, some laughed uncomfortably. And me? I was one of the ones standing back a bit. It's not that I don't like being competitive - put me on a netball court and I'll fight to win, but never with unkindness. And I did my best at darts and tried to hit the board everytime. But what I noticed last night was that when others won, I cheered heartily every time, even when it meant I was 'losing'. I think it's something in me that loves a shared experience and supporting others more than being called the 'winner'. It made me reflect on what motivates me with work.
