My first overseas kart race at Karting Genk didn't end up the way I would have wanted. Heat 3 happened in the dark and rain, I made up 5 places to 7th and unsighted by rain spray and a spin by Jacob Ashcroft in front of me, which led to a nasty crash and my kart flipped. Thanks to the track marshals and track doctor who took care of me and got me to the hospital. A CT scan confirmed no neck or back injury. However, I did receive a broken thumb and a cut to my back, which required stitches. I'm going to be out of races for 6 weeks while my injuries heal, but I'll be back better than ever for the British Kart Championships and Ultimate Kart Championships later in the year. Thanks to Martyn Smithers and Matthew Easton for your help as well as the rest of the team for a great 4 days of testing and racing and helping me to get to hospital and recover the kart. I'm looking forward to coming back stronger than ever. #kart #karting #race #racing #kartinglife #recovery

For those interested here are my thoughts and predictions for Melbourne Cup day. It is an opinion-based game, so as always if you have a different thought, please back yourself and best of luck. The Melbourne Cup The Melbourne Cup has been challenging for punters in recent years with the last three winners paying $21, $18 and $26. From 2006-2022 there has only been one winning favourite in the Melbourne Cup but I anticipate Vauban will change that this year. In 2023 the race looks strong at the top, but with a long tail and I personally anticipate that there are only a few winning chances. My selections. No.5 Vauban He was simply breathtaking winning at Royal Ascot and if he reproduces that performance he will win. He will take luck out of the equation and be up on speed, there is no knock on him and happy to back him at about $4.50. No.3 Without A Fight He is looking to become the first horse since Ethereal in 2001 to win the Caufield Cup and Melbourne Cup in the same year and there is no reason why he won’t. Jockey Mark Zahra elected to ride Without A Fight over Gold Trip so time will tell if he is as good a judge as he is a jockey. No.6 Soulcombe An incredibly talented horse, but he starts his races as slowly as plenty of Aussies will start tomorrow morning with a hangover. If he can step away cleanly and be around midfield in the run, then he is a tremendous winning chance. If you back him, the start is imperative. No.4 Breakup This is the horse who in my opinion is sneaking under the radar and will be a big improver from the Caulfield Cup to the Melbourne Cup. Has strong form in Japanese staying races and will relish the step up in trip to 3200 metres. No.1 Gold Trip The defending champion who was a dominant winner of the Turnbull and lost no admirers in the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate. My concern is how much petrol will be left in the tank and he looks under the odds. But must again be respected. For those playing wider exotics, some runners worth including are No.21 Future History, No.15 Lastotchka and No.7 Absurde. A fun little bet at $4.50 could be both Vauhban and Soulcombe finishing in the top 5 https://lnkd.in/ggKajrBx Flemington Best Bets: Flemington Race 4, No.1 Barber Race 4 Race 3 No.2 Aztec State and a saver on No.10 Queen Of Dragons. My best each-way bets on the day Race 2, No.7 Mr Maestro Race 5, No.12 Insulation If you want a short priced favourite to anchor a multi bet Rosehill Best bet Race 3, No.5 Iowna Merc And everybody loves backing one at huge odds on Cup day Two absolute bolters who I anticipate will run well Flemington Race 8, No.5 Elphinstone Race 10, No.18 Foxy Cleopatra Gamble responsibly. 🏆 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗼 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿: 𝗦𝗲́𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗲𝗯'𝘀 𝗪𝗥𝗖 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 🏆 Imagine dominating a sport so thoroughly that your name becomes synonymous with victory. That's exactly what Sébastien Loeb achieved in the World Rally Championship (WRC). From 2004 to 2012, Loeb clinched a record nine consecutive world titles, a feat that remains unmatched in the annals of rallying history. 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Loeb's journey to the pinnacle of WRC was marked by relentless ambition and unparalleled skill. His record-breaking spree began in 2004, when he not only won his first championship but also became the first non-Nordic driver to win the snow-based Swedish Rally. By 2005, he had already set a new standard by winning six consecutive rallies, surpassing Timo Salonen's record from 1985. His mastery over various terrains was evident as he claimed victories on snow, gravel, and tarmac alike. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 Loeb's dominance did more than just fill a trophy cabinet; it revolutionized the sport. Before his era, drivers often specialized in certain surfaces, but Loeb's comprehensive approach pushed competitors to excel on all terrains. His technique, prioritising exit speed over flamboyant slides, changed the driving style in rallying, making it clear that to win championships, one must be versatile and adapt to every challenge. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 Despite his success, Loeb's career was not without its hurdles. A mountain biking accident in 2006 resulted in a broken arm, sidelining him for the final four rallies of the season. Yet, his resilience and determination saw him return stronger, continuing to set records and redefine excellence in WRC. What do you think makes a champion like Loeb stand out? Is it the raw talent, the relentless drive, or perhaps the ability to overcome adversity? #WRC #Rallying #MotorsportLegends #LoebLegacy 🏁👑 What does it take to be a nine-time world champion? #ChampionMindset #RallyingHistory #SebastienLoeb 🏁👑

The 2023 Spanish Grand Prix Formula 1 returned to the streets of Barcelona for the 53rd running of the Spanish Grand Prix World Championship. For the 33rd time, the race was held at the Circuit de Barcelona, Catalunya. It was a home race for Spanish drivers Carlos Sainz Jr. and Fernando Alonso. While Carlos has never won a Spanish Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso did in 2013. If Alonso had won the race, it would have been his 33rd Formula 1 race win. Alonso also used garage number 33 and pit box number 33 during the Grand Prix weekend. Did I mention that he had his 33rd helmet design at the race? During the practice sessions, Max Verstappen was the fastest driver throughout. Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso were second and third fastest during the first and second practice sessions, respectively. Unfortunately, Logan Sargent crashed during the third practice session, prompting the red flags. During the qualifying session, Yuki Tsunoda and Nyk de Vries spun on the track during the first quarter, while Fernando Alonso struggled with a damaged car floor. In the second quarter, Sergio Perez bounced across the gravel at Turn 5, which possibly affected his elimination at that stage in qualifying. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton made contact during the second quarter of the qualifying session. At the start of the race, Max Verstappen managed to get away from Carlos Sainz Jr., but not without a challenge. Lando Norris made contact with Lewis Hamilton as his front wing touched the rear of his car. Because of the damage he sustained, Lando Norris had to pit and drop to twentieth place on the grid. By lap 2, George Russell, who had started the race in twelfth, was up into seventh place behind Fernando Alonso. On lap 6, Russell overtook Alonso and, a few laps later, Esteban Ocon. By lap 25, Russell was up into second place until a pit stop on the next lap caused him to drop to sixth place. By lap 32, Russell had moved up a few places and eventually went on to finish the race on the podium in third place behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton, who began the race in fifth place, moved up into third place by lap 8 and eventually finished the race in second place. QATAAARRRR 😎 Big challenges ahead for Kevin Magnussen this weekend! Not only will the Danish Formula 1 driver explore the Lusail International Circuit for the first time in his carreer – it’s also Sprint Weekend, which means lesser time for preparations before qualifying and race. K-Mag placed his MoneyGram Haas F1 Team VF-23 race car on a P19 in Friday’s qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix. “It’s a new track for me and I found it a little more difficult to learn than I had hoped. It’s a pretty tricky circuit to drive and not having been to it before, it’s taken me a while to get on top of it. So, there’s a lot more lap time to find from me. It’s a long weekend ahead still, but of course disappointed with P19, but we’ll try and do better in the next session,” said Kevin Magnussen. The Qatar Grand Prix will be the fourth of six Sprint Weekends in 2023, and despite the disappointing qualifying result, Kevin Magnussen still likes the format. “Yes, I enjoy Sprint Weekends because there’s more pressure. Most of the weekend, even with the first practice session there’s pressure because it’s the only one you get. From the beginning of the weekend, it’s more exciting.” FUN FACTS: The Lusail International Circuit, located just outside the capital of Doha, hosted it’s very first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2021, with the country signing an 10-year contract from 2023. The 5.4km track is primarily designed for motorcycle racing which makes it a fast and flowing track, where medium- and high-speed corners predominate. Over one kilometre of the track’s total length is made up of the main straight, which provides plenty of overtaking opportunities into Turn 1… The weekend’s first and only practice session was completed on Friday, as was the qualifying for Sunday’s GP. Saturday will begin with the Sprint Shootout – that’s the qualifying for the Sprint – and will be followed by the Sprint Race. Sunday’s 57-lap-long Qatar Grand Prix begins at 20:00 local time (GMT +3). Wanna follow live? 2020 Turkish GP commentary. “And so the final lap of the Grand Prix starts then for the race leader. And the world champion Lewis Hamilton, the man who, once upon a time said that I don’t inspire to be like other drivers. I inspire to be unique in my own way. And throughout his Formula 1 career, he’s definitely done that. And on the track today, he’s done things, his own way. He and the pit wall have deciding that he wants to stay out, as we have seen him done so often this season, determining his own strategy and just driving focusly. That’s it isn’t it, the dream rises. He’s made his key decisions from the cockpit, even as recently as a couple of laps ago. That’s what wins world championships. You know we’ve seen many many drivers win races, you have to be good to even race in Formula 1. You have to be very good to win races. But unquestionably each one degrades. Absolutely, and he’s almost 30 seconds ahead of man in second place. Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc will share the podium with him. A podium that Lewis Hamilton will stand on the top step off. Once again, this unique year, in 2020 we are off the track. Lewis Hamilton has found his voice, and on it once again, he’s found his groove. And now he finds himself alongside Michael Schumacher as top in the record books. The world championship record is equaled. Lewis Hamilton wins the Turkish Grand Prix and is seven time the champion of the world.” The stuff that gives you goosebumps. #lewishamilton #f1 #mercedesamgf1
