Do you know, one of the key effects for households in the 2024–2025 FAFSA will be the presence of several children attending college. The revised calculations, known as the Student Aid Index, will no longer divide the EFC for each child attending college equally. Parents, be advised that you could not be qualified for a need-based grant starting with the FAFSA for 2024–2025.

Remember the political uproar after a ticket-buying surge from Taylor Swift fans caused Ticketmaster’s website to crash? Families with multiple kids in college at the same time used to get a break when applying for federal student aid. That is now set to end in the 2024-25 year when parents fill out the FAFSA form, which is used to determine parent contribution. From the article.."The new Fafsa replaces the expected family contribution with a new calculation called the “Student Aid Index,” or SAI, to estimate how much a family can afford to pay. The new formula will no longer consider the number of siblings attending college when measuring a family’s ability to pay, said a spokesperson for the Education Department." Regardless of these changes, starting to save for college via a tax deferred 529 plan should be on parents minds if college is in their kids future. #529plan #collegesavings #financialaid #fundingcollege #college #financialplanning https://lnkd.in/gff5bBJj
