A few months back, I started doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. And as many a newb is wont to do, I scurried over to Google and typed, “how to learn BJJ faster”. Top result? A site called BJJ More. CLICK. And there, before my eyes, is one of best lead magnets I’ve ever seen: “Learn BJJ faster than everyone else! “Sign up below to get my 7 best tips for improving jiu-jitsu as fast as humanly possible.” And most intriguingly? A free chapter to his book, “Blue Belt in 1 day.” “Blue belt in one day?” I think. “I want me one of those.” CLICK. Thus, the scene is set: A hot prospect’s on their email list, drooling over the lead magnet - can they seal the deal? That week, the emails come in. And I must say… I was pretty tempted to buy. But in the end, I didn’t. Why not? Here’s the post-mortem: First, not a lot of VISION. Zero stories showing how poor old me (a puny white belt) would be stuck for months in crushing pins if I didn’t have the knowledge in his book. Second, telling me the WRONG stories. I don’t care about winning a gold medal in a competition. I’m a newbie. I just want to stop getting crushed for 5 minutes straight every time I roll. Tell me stories about THAT plz. And third… (The easiest one to fix)… Slow, flabby, un-exciting writing, devoid of personality. Remember: You can screw up your sales message…. But if people love reading your emails, you’ll convert them over time. Thus, the mortal sin of communications in 2023: You can be many things… But one thing you can’t be is BORING. #emailmarketing #emailmarketingtips #marketing #bjj
