Great to see the commitment! Let’s make sure it is sustainable growth. Efforts need to be made to make sure we have enough committed girls and reliable match schedules - since there is less history of girls playing cricket, sports like netball, swimming, hockey, rowing, etc create a lot of scheduling conflicts for sporty girls, even during cricket season. Forfeited matches lead to drop outs, so critical mass, enthusiasm and commitment within clubs is key. (As are the usual factors: making clubs inclusive and welcoming to female players, access to pitches and changing rooms, and of course, female kit!)

Empowering Women's Cricket in South Africa! The introduction of South Africa's first professional women’s cricket league announced last week is momentous. Not only did the Proteas women's team shine at their home T20 Women’s World Cup, but their relentless pursuit has now ensured equal match fees with the Proteas men, putting SA on the map alongside nations like India and New Zealand. The road hasn't been easy. From evolving into a professional outfit in 2015, reaching multiple semifinals in T20 World Cups and 50-over editions, to now aiming for gold - it's a journey of resilience, talent, and passion. With the new professional league being introduced, 11 players per team, up from six, will secure permanent employment as cricketers, earning benefits like medical aid and a provident fund. Such initiatives not only bolster international performance but also provide a foundation for future talents as cricket, and sport in general, becomes a viable occupation for women. Yet, as cricket sets a shining example, we reflect on other sports. Banyana Banyana's recent challenge to the South African Football Association (SAFA) underscores the broader conversations needed in sport around gender equity. Here too the women reached heights not reached before by a South African National team by making it to the Round of 16 at the FIFA Women's World Cup earlier this month. Will SAFA follow CSA's lead? The Matildas... heck, the entire Women's Football World Cup have changed not just the face, but the culture of sport. No longer can women playing sport be considered second class citizens in the sporting world. Women in sport show leadership, courage, and a joy - key elements that can sometimes be missing from... well, other sport. The Matildas aren't the only Australian women's team to be breaking barriers this month. Australia has sent its first ever Women's Blind Cricket team to the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games. Supported by Blind Cricket Australia and Cricket Australia, the team will face England and India in the competition. India is the team to beat in so many ways - they currently have the best women's Blind cricket team because they have invested into the team and professionalised it. This is something that Australia aims to emulate. Disability is so often looked at as a deficit, but disabled people are skilled, they have potential, and when given half the chance step into leadership positions with ease, like these women, showing the world that cricket is for women who live with vision impairment. London Tigers Welcomes Recommendations for a More Inclusive Cricket Community! 👏👏 https://lnkd.in/d9xf-KpP I am pleased to share with you all the groundbreaking recommendations outlined in the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket report published today. As the CEO of London Tigers, an organization that has been tirelessly working towards promoting inclusivity and diversity in sports, particularly in our football and cricket clubs, these recommendations resonate deeply with our mission. The Guardian newspaper headlined as 'damning ICEC report....' highlighted key findings that shed light on the challenges faced by ethnic minorities in cricket. Despite South Asians constituting 26-29% of the game's adult recreational population and 6.9% of the population of England and Wales, their representation in cricket's senior leadership stands at a mere 2.8%. This discrepancy is just one aspect of the deep-seated issue of racism that continues to persist in our beloved sport. The report boldly states that racism in cricket cannot be dismissed as isolated incidents or the actions of a few individuals. It is a serious problem that affects the experiences and opportunities of many involved in the game. The statistics are startling: ethnically diverse representation accounts for only 5.6% of leadership in cricket, despite comprising 18.3% of the English and Welsh population and 30-35% of recreational cricket players. We cannot ignore these disparities any longer. Furthermore, the report highlights the prevalence of elitism and class-based discrimination in cricket, driven by limited access to the sport in state schools and a talent pathway intertwined with private schools. The recommendations put forth by the commission aim to dismantle these barriers, including the abolition of the nominations system and the introduction of open trials. They also emphasize the need for free participation in talent pathways and the establishment of county and national level T20 competitions for state boys and girls' teams at the U14 and U15 age groups. At London Tigers, we wholeheartedly support these recommendations. We believe in the power of cricket to unite people from all backgrounds and cultures. By embracing multiculturalism and breaking down barriers, we can create a cricketing community that truly reflects the diversity of our society. I want to be supportive, I want to be happy, I really do, but ultimately I am left feeling this is an opportunity missed. This is not because FabLittleBag is absent from this offering when for so long it was central to it, it is because there was a real and timely opportunity for the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to lead as a governing body and ignite a ground breaking, sustainable focussed positive change at grassroots level and upwards around period management, and to do this differently, to address this from the #woman and #girls perspective; what does good thoughtful period provision looks like, what does feeling truly 'welcomed' feel like and to embed a strong environmental and sustainability message hand in hand with the solution for future generations. Instead what we have is a commercial deal with a lot of plastic & waste; large plastic units in small cubicles, adding wet wipes; more plastic, & universally acknowledged to be environmentally damaging, & dog poo bags for disposal. Justification is they're "biodegradable & compostable" - that's because they're actually dog poo bags! So if buried in the ground, there's a chance for them to biodegrade. In cricket club cubicles #tampons & #pads are not #biodegradable, or buried in the ground, they will simply be collected & incinerated so zero biodegrading or composting going on; feels like #greenwashing as it gives the impression they are 'eco-friendly' when they are nothing of the sort. What impression do dog poo bags give to girls changing their pads? We know they do not change the behaviour of those who habitually flush either... The tampons & pads are in multipacks in boxes; seems unnecessarily wasteful; the boxes wont be recycled, they extra items may well left on the floor then others wont want to use them, if 10 boxes in the unit then only 10 people are provided for as opposed to 30 if they were unboxed... It misses the whole point of creating something that makes women & girls feel valued and is easy for clubs to manage. Perhaps the oddest part is the provision of a sani-bin service to hundreds of #cricket clubs, the vast majority of which simply have no requirement for this, yet it means hundreds of car trips all over England to collect period waste for no reason? Logistically, volunteers having to organise to be in, traffic delays, I just do not understand this aspect at all. NEW DELHI: Cricket Scotland‘s chief executive, <!-- -->Trudy Lindblade<!-- -->, issued a public <!-- -->apology<!-- --> on Monday following the release of an independent report revealing instances of widespread <!-- -->sexism<!-- --> within the sport.The report, authored by human resources firm <!-- -->McKinney<!-- -->, uncovered several examples of disrespectful and demeaning behavior towards <!-- -->female players<!-- --> and staff within Cricket Scotland.Lindblade acknowledged the severity of the findings, labeling them as a “damning indictment” of the organization’s treatment of women.“It is evident that Cricket Scotland allowed behaviors to take place that were disrespectful, demeaning, and deeply concerning, and that these were allowed to continue for a significant period,” stated Lindblade. “This is completely unacceptable, and I wholeheartedly apologize to every single person who was affected and let down by the governing body.”Lindblade also emphasized the urgent need for action, acknowledging the substantial work required to address and rectify the issues highlighted in the report. Among the nine recommendations proposed by McKinney are increased investment in the women’s game and enhanced education efforts aimed at combating inherent sexism within the sport.“This report also highlights the huge amount of work that we need to do throughout cricket in Scotland to improve the standing of women and girls within our sport,” Lindblade added.The revelations in the report represent another setback for Cricket Scotland, which has faced previous scrutiny over its governance and leadership practices. Why cricket's troubling report can pave the way for an incredible global future if we all work together/// Yesterday morning I woke up to find my inbox/DMs filled with concerned parents and friends messaging me about the ICEC report into England and Wales cricket. The report which tags the sport as racist, classist, elitist and sexist, pulls no punches. As a cricket fan, cricket coach and long time lover of the game the contents are hard to read. Although the report is very disappointing, horrific reading, nobody within cricket should look away. It is important we all read it and the accompanying recommendations, to make sure that a powerful report does what it is intended to do, create powerful action. The report goes beyond just "direct" forms of racism, elitism, sexism and looks at structural problems, systemic problems, and intersectional challenges. To address this we need three things: speed - an immediacy to acting on recommendations intensity - a restlessness to make the changes belief - that the sport can change and has people willing to change it As much as the report makes it clear that it isn't about every person, every club, every community, every player or every parent, it is everyone in cricket's responsiblity... it is on every parent, every player, every community, club and person to help make the game better and to individually listen to what the report says. Everyone has the power to make change from the grassroots up. The quote "specific interventions to help specific communities in specific areas" is the most apt and perfect summary of the challenge, but also our individual ability to act. There were four interesting areas within the report that have been addressed but now need radical change and importantly funding, time for the income from The Hundred to go to good use: 1) The inequality in class incl. reviewing costs, state school cricket 2) Talent pathways incl. south asian representation in county set ups, talent id 3) Black participation incl. the decline of the game 4) Equality of women incl. the alignment in the playing pay gap To some extent these 4 areas are being tackled by individual organisations and individuals such as MCC Foundation , Chance to Shine (Rohan Randhawa), ACE Programme, Lydia Greenway and more. The challenge is now with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and where the recommended funding comes from, how quickly it can be distributed, and how they think about the commercial and regulatory tensions they face.
